Stunning photos! Whenever I see one flying I think of pterodactyls.

You’re on the list. This is a different bird than the GBH. The Tri color is also called Louisiana Heron. It is a lot smaller than the GBH.

Different bird, the GBH is much larger, different feeding habits and diet. You’re on the list now.

If it raided your pond it was likely a Great Blue Heron. The tricolor prefers crabs, if it can get them.

Nice. We have herons nearby, as well, and they are quite vocal when disturbed. I get quite a kick out of their indignang squawking.

They are pretty, but they are predators and can be tough characters when they want to be. The little Snowy Egrets are mean little demons. I’ve had to catch herons and egrets when they were injured, first thing you do is wrap up the beak, they go right for your eyes. It could be fatal, the neck that drives the beak is like a steel spring.

Beautiful!
You ought to make Wildlife Calendars and sell them, if you haven’t already!
Thanks for putting me on your PING list!

The third picture, especially, is a great portrait. Are you concealed when you shoot? The birds never look startled or nervous about you being there.
