Gaunt Patrick Swayze Defiantly Chain-Smokes As He Battles Cancer

Patrick Swayze cut a gaunt figure when he was spotted in public for the first time in weeks. The actor, who is fighting pancreatic cancer, looked gaunt and frail as he defiantly smoked a cigarette while waiting for wife Lisa Niemi in Beverly Hills.

Once famed for his athletic body and steamy routines in the 1987 hit movie Dirty Dancing, the actor now looks a shadow of his former self.

The 56-year-old smoked several cigarettes in under 10 minutes, according to onlookers, puffing big clouds of smoke out of the truck.'He was puffing away and appeared as if he didn't have a care in the world. It's so sad,' said one.

Reports from the US suggest that he has stopped treatment for the cancer, including chemotherapy, after experiencing extreme side-effects such as excruciating dental pain making it impossible to chew food.

The actor blows a plume of smoke out the window of his car, smoking several cigarettes in just 10 minutes

He is believed to have undergone dental surgery to repair his damaged gums and save his teeth.

What “mission from God”? Facts are facts.

“Nobody is saying smoking is good for you.”

Good. It’s also not good for those exposed to second hand smokers too.

I have thankfully recovered from necrotic pancreatitis that damn near killed me - so don’t get preachy. I’m keenly aware of precious minutes. And in my recovery, I learned a lot about pancreatic disorders including cancer - and sorry to be blunt, it’s simply a matter of time, and treatment only putting off the inevitable.

So why don’t they talk about Obama’s habit.

Big AMEN to that! Throughout 2008 I thought that if McCain were the smoker, you'd be hearing it right and left but Obama had hardly a peep. To top it off he is the one with young children, isn't that child abuse? Like everything else, it depends upon which end your Depends(tm) are tied. If you are looking for the government tit, Obama, Pelosi and Reid are the friends of ASH and all of the other health and safety fanatics. Reminds me of N.O.W. and Willy - big silence!

The dangers of second-hand smoke are in the same camp of grossly overexaggerated non-threats as Global Warming and Halliburton.

Sorry but if I was a smoker and I knew I would be smoking around people with a family or personal history of cancer I would quickly put my cigarette away or not smoke at all. It’s called CARING about your fellow man, enough not to inflict extra risk on them.

Jesus, what’s the point now??

I mean if I’m dying, and miserable, I sure don’t want to go through cigarette withdrawels for God sake.

Leave him alone. I’m going to miss him if he dies.

It’s the same mentality that denies the pain-ridden terminally ill medicine for relief on the theory they will get *hooked on painkillers*

You can't provide phonics for the terminally ill for the same reason.

Awww shucks, don’t you know 99% of people with AIDS were just walking down the street, stubbed their toe and BAM got AIDS. They are VICTIMS! Do you hear me? VICTIMS!

Smoking is the least of his worries at this point. I say go for whatever helps him get through the night.

Geez, you’re the one who is preachy. And if you really did have cancer, you would completely agree with what I said instead of whining about it.

I can’t really argue with that, if you know your smoking bothers someone and you choose to be considerate to their feelings by not smoking. But where I live in Washington State, they passed one of the most ridiculous smoking bans in the nation. No smoking in any bars (including cigar bars), and no smoking within 25 feet of any public building, literally forcing smokers into the street in many cases. So as a personal choice I can’t complain about not smoking—I don’t smoke myself. But I associate the anti-secondhand smoke arguments with the flourishing nanny/totalitarian state in the socialist hellhole of Washington.

Many people of all walks of life come down with this insidious cancer

Just returned home from the funeral of a dear friend - pancreatic cancer. Never smoked, watched her diet, exercised...doesn’t matter. My aunt died from it too, same circumstances.

If it takes a family history to decide whether smoking causes cancer, does it take a family history to prove whether smugness and self-righteous are inheritable?
