HELENA - The oft-ridiculed bill to create a state pancake is no more, as a Senate committee voted late Thursday to kill it.

Huckleberry pancakes are wonderful, I admit, and I plan on having some at my favorite Bozeman cafe this coming week. To name them as the state pancake is somewhat bizarre.

Huckleberry taffy is addictive, but I don't think they should name it as the state candy either. Huckleberry vinegarette is the best thing that ever happened to a salad!

“Name it after Obama.”

Huckleberry Pancake reserves naming rights.

Important legislation here in Maryland; Smith Island Cake, Smith Island, Somerset County, Maryland, 2008.

Effective October 1, 2008, the Smith Island Cake became the State Dessert of Maryland (Chapters 164 & 165, Acts of 2008; Code State Government Article, sec. 13-320). Traditionally, the cake consists of eight to ten layers of yellow cake with chocolate frosting between each layer and slathered over the whole. However, many variations have evolved, both in the flavors for frosting and the cake itself.

Hmmm. Bozeman from Louisiana. (now that’s a commute! ... take a right in Albuquerque)

“Huckleberry vinegarette is the best thing that ever happened to a salad!” (you were kidnapped and taken from Montana, right?)

Hmmm, headed to Maryland this weekend, I may have to look up this Smith Island Cake!

But huckleberry pancakes sound great, too. For those of you unfamiliar with the huckleberry, imagine the flavor of a blueberry on steroids!

re post 7...
That looks like imitation bacon...
Don’t know what’s more devious, cake that doesn’t meet code or cake that looks like bacon.

"Hmmm. Bozeman from Louisiana. (now that’s a commute! ... take a right in Albuquerque)"

Yes, and we enjoy the drive almost every year. Beautiful country, great skiing and huckleberry everything! We take different routes so that the drive is less repetitive and we see more parts of the country. Christmas 2007 we went up through SLC and then up to West Yellowstone from there. This year, we're going to go through Jackson, Wy and I have no idea how we're coming back, but it won't be in I-25 cause that is the most barren drive through WY and CO.

"(you were kidnapped and taken from Montana, right?)"

Had I been from Montana, that would have been the only way to get me out. ;-)

Not my place to comment other than I appreciated traveling more when I had no itinerary...

Enjoy and if you go through Cody WY, there is a small hotel/motel. Last time I was through, the overnight caretaker has some history to tell you. (re: Enola Gay and more)

Only happened for me due to traveling as my desire possibly pointed me (sometimes being low on gas or food too).

HEY, hope you take the drive over the pass from Jackson...
That drive gave me new appreciation for fuel injection.

I’m in California. I think we ought to have a state fruitcake.
