Hormone replacement therapy

My wife is about to start Hormone replacement therapy and I have a lot of questions...

Any opinions/experiences?

Does it help? Or a scam?

How much does it cost in the long run?

Harmful?

I’m not really sure. Our insurance pays for it.

(See why socialism doesn’t work?) ;-)

“”I have never had a hot flash and never took HRT. I took 800 IU a day of Vit E along with other supplements.””

As I said in another post, I go for the natural remedies first ALWAYS - I was on 1000 IU Vitamin E and my other supplements - didn’t help. My sister followed the same regimen and never had the problems I had. Different folks, different results.

trying too be supportive by learning if it is a good thing. If she decides to proceed, I will support her decision.

As long as you don't expect miracles because everyone is different I think it could help. But, make absolutely, positively sure she gets a mammogram EVERY YEAR!

I’ve not had to deal with this yet, but I’ve done a little reading on treatments. Health food stores carry natural treatments that I intend to investigate more when the time comes.

I’d use bioidentical if I was heading toward HRT. I know what the drug companies say that it don’t matter. I can tell you from experience with my husband having had to take prednisone (also made from horse urine) and the big old horse flys would chase him all the way from the river to our house through the river bottom and sting him. (They could smell the horse urine.) The biodenticals are made from vegetarian stuff. I’d want to be measured for hormone levels and not take any risks.

Combi-Patch!!! Low dose.
As long as personal family history/risk of female cancers is low, this is the way to go. I’ve been using it for almost 10 years. Took the estrogen/progesten pills for awhile - delivery of the med through skin works best.

I do get a biopsy annually now - risk is low, but this makes sure nothing grows unnoticed. Takes care of the hot flashes - my life was miserable with those! Just my opinion!

Many other factors can affect how a woman feels besides just hormones. A good bit of protein and a good diet all the way around also has a lot to do with how a person feels as well as other factors. Just taking a good supplement to go along with it can make a difference in how one feels. The right food can give a person’s body material to work with to fix its own self. I never had a hot flash, but other health issues that required a lot of trials of this and that herb and supplement. Some helped, some didn’t.

Go with bio-identical even if your insurance won’t pay for it. It will be the best money you spend. If you don’t go bio-identical take estradiol only as an estrogen supplement. Do not take any type of synthetic progestin (not to be confused with progesterone, which is natural) unless you want to shorten your potential lifespan greatly.

I’m not familiar with that term.
What is bio-identical?

Im not fully up on bio-identical, but it is considered to be more in tune to the individuals specific hormonal analysis...

natural, not synthetic

Her risk of cancer is significant with HRT, if she has a history of it or if it is prevalent in her family. Has either of her parent’s had it? Maternal uncles/aunts? My mom had cancer. I have had it twice. I had a bi-lateral mastectomy. Almost finished with menopause.Made it without HRT. But it has been so rough! Panic attacks ,night sweats ,hot flashes,Increased blood pressure, dry skin.kidney infections. Hormones control EVERYTHING. Have your wife go to www.power-surge.com. Excellent site..

In this case it was hormones that were making her a nice person, the difference was almost instantaneous when she stopped taking them. The reason she took them to start with was because she changed so radically from when she was younger and she wanted to regain her old personality, which she did, until she was scared by articles about hormones and stopped taking them. It wasn’t two days before she started changing.

I’m on Combi-patch too - works great for me.

My life without it was pure hell. I started menopause prematurely at age 40, and besides the hot flashes and electric “zaps” every 20 minutes around the clock I had crashing brain fog that left me unable to remember my own phone number. I was in danger of losing my job, plus I hadn’t gotten a decent nights sleep in nearly 6 months when I went on them.

I tried all the natural stuff first but they only made a small dent in the flashes and did nothing for the brain fog.

I know there’s a risk to it but frankly I don’t care. I’d rather be dead than go through what I was dealing with pre-patch.

Great, but don’t let her be prescribed synthetic hormone.
Insist on bio-identical hormones.
