"They hit the door right here and the door flew open," says Mike Hasenei, standing outside his Elkridge home.
His wife, Phyllis, was watching television with her 12-year old daughter when members of the Howard County Police Tactical Team came through the door.
"They had guns pointed at us. You have 25 guys coming in here all dressed in black and all that we saw were their eyes, and they're screaming 'Hands in the air!'"
Members of the team were acting upon a tip that an assault rifle, magazines and hollow-point bullets stolen from a marked police car the night before may be located inside.
Adding insult to injury, when the search led police to a back bedroom where they encountered the familys dog, they opened fire.
Officers found no evidence of the stolen goods after ransacking the house.
At this point a complaint has been logged against the department, but Howard County Police aren't about to admit they were wrong or to apologize for their actions.
"No. We didn't find a weapon in this particular case, said Sherry Llewellyn, a spokeswoman for the department, but that doesn't mean that there wasn't good information that there were weapons there before we had a chance to get inside the house."
Now, Mike Hasenei is waiting on an Internal Affairs investigation into the raid before deciding whether he and his family will take the department to court.
"I'm not gonna sit down and let people walk all over me and say 'sorry' and walk out of my house."
Elkridge, MD is a suburb of Baltimore.
Some of them walk away.
If an increasing number of people (and I don’t mean criminals. I mean people just like this and other similar cases) were able to meet the cops at the door and ended up dropping 1 or 2 of them, eventually they will run out of cops brave enough to kick in doors and run out of off the record dope and guns to drop.
I use to be a deputy sheriff a long time ago in Georgia, looked at a police job again after the Army. Decided I had some problems with what was happening and the mentality. Like you, I just can’t seem to garner much respect for them anymore, especailly the SUPERCOP tactical teams.
The one form of Gun Control I would like? Restrict law enforcement to .38 pistols and 12 gauge shotguns. No need for all those high military toys. If they feel they need those, call the military to do the raid for you.
Historically that has been true. However, it has never been tested with a population that has 100 million firearms in its possession.
Which is why I expect the Obamanoids to make the nation's first serious play for universal disarmament.
When that happens, let the games begin. By then the money won't be any good, so what will you have to lose but the chance to kneel in submission before a chickensh*t third world socialist a-hole?
“And I do hope you have as much anger toward criminals who threaten good cops to the point that they get aggressive to protect themselves”
There was NO evidence there were criminals there. In fact most of the evidence presented, including false statements to get a warrant, point to guys who just wanted to dress up in ninja suits and bust heads.
Look at the map of the CATO institute study. There are too many cops and DEA who are just spoiling for a fight.
Who ever it does not matter. For too many it is a case of once they draw the sword it can not be sheathed until it has had blood on it.
That is what the evidence shows is the case in too many raids/home invasions.
At this point a complaint has been logged against the department, but Howard County Police aren't about to admit they were wrong or to apologize for their actions.
This is the kind of behavior that has me smile and quietly cheer for people like Ryan Frederick and I'm a law-abiding, middle-aged family man serving my country.

They can be pretty mean but only when protecting as you say. In this case the dog was trying to hide from the cops. I'm getting to the point where the TV series COPS is all propaganda .....
I appreciate informative posts and good links...thanks. I’m not from Maryland but I’m nearby.
I’ve seen here on FR that people from all around the USA and the world are reading and posting on the issues that come up. There is good information to be gleaned.
From the 3rd link you listed:
“If it all sounds vaguely familiar, think back to July. Thats when police busted into Berwyn Heights Mayor Cheye Calvos home and shot Calvos dogs during a raid that netted nothing. Police later cleared Calvo and his wife of any wrongdoing and charged two unrelated people as suspects.”
“Several Maryland legislators, as a result, have introduced legislation that would require law enforcement agencies to issue monthly reports on SWAT team deployments. Its called Senate Bill 447.”
This article gives me the idea to look into legislation for oversight of SWAT activities in Northern Virginia. In Fairfax County a SWAT team killed an unarmed man in his front yard near my house. This link gives the details:

Why the hell can’t they just call them and say come out or we are blowing up the house. How hard is that. All this over suspicion of a stolen rifle? BS
Ahh, thanks for the tip.
You don't have the "info" and you don't have any idea what the "circumstances" were. All you know is what the police mouthpiece told the press, which isn't much.
And if you don't yet know the difference between the military and the police, then you don't belong here, son.
Why aren't the cops under arrest? Or is this "in accordance with Department practice"
Ours was an Australian Sheppard. Ears the same, muzzle the same (but a bit wider), look in the eyes “hey, so what adventure are we going to do now”.
Herded everything and every one. Once in a cold winter here in PA it jumped in a lake to swim out about a quarter mile in an attempt to herd the ducks and geese swimming on a lake. At that same lake in the summer it would dive deep to get rocks we threw in, thinking we wanted her to retrieve them.
Was the friendly boss of every dog that invaded it’s imaginary space. Huge dogs, mean dogs, friendly dogs (or skunks) that crossed a certain line (about 35 ft out) and it tried to make them submit. Always did. (Would not even back off the skunk until I hose them both down with a garden hose!
We lost smokey to cancer 4 years ago and it was very sad.

All that combat gear, all that training, all that money spent, and the adrenaline rush involved to boot? No way should they be expected to do what would be reasonable.
I'd guess the daughter alone will suffer PTSD and be worth about a miillion for emotional trauma, not to mention punitive damages for criminal negligence on the part of the pigs.
Forget that. Warrants are a F*ing joke. The reality is that judges will sign anything. Half the time they're drunk, or in bed with their mistress from the Bailiff's office. All they want is to get you out of the way with no pictures.
Which the taxpayers these cops are preying on will pay, while the thugs walk, free to shoot another dog another day. These criminals need to start being held personally responsible.
WTF is the deal with cops and their “shoot the dog first” directive?
I forgot the means justify the ends. Chalk up a dead family pet. Sue em' till it hurts the judge.

Not something people want to hear. But based on the result of this warrant, you are probably DOBA. (think Marisa Tomey in “My Cousin Vinny” referring to the leaking faucet.)
Freedom's just another word for "nothing left to lose" ;^)
