The Michigan Democrat appeared on the syndicated Bill Press show today (2/5) to say that losing progressive talk-formatted stations in D.C., San Diego, Sacramento and Miami is such a disservice to the public. She talks about the airwaves dominated by one view that
then overwhelms peoples opinions. Also about the right-wing conservative talkshow hosts who are out there, just trying to make people angry and saying all kinds of things that arent true
there has to be voices on the other side. She tells progressive talker Bill Press its absolutely time to pass a standard to bring accountability to the airwaves, by holding licensees accountable. Bill asks about potential Senate hearings, and Stabenow says I have already had some discussions with colleagues, and, you know, I feel like thats gonna happen. Yep.
In addition in Boston, the blue-est area around, "prog talk" was off from Dec '06 till Dec of last year when someone had to buy time to get it on. It was just noticed that the two shows that were bought seem to have suddenly disappeared (could be anything but maybe the money ran out?) And these folks want to FORCE radio stations to put unwanted liberal talk on?
In which case your talk station might prefer to simply change the format. "True Oldies 680". "Classic Country 97.3". "ESPN 940". Coming soon, where your fave conservative talk stations now are?

Let the war begin. And Stabenow...you’re side is going to lose.
“your” side is going to lose.
>>saying all kinds of things that arent true there has to be voices on the other side
That’s right, only liberals tell the truth— is what she’s saying.
Tell that to salary-capped financial CEOs.
Barbara Boxer of the East....
Dear East Coast Babs....
Three letters — N P R.
I hate these people. Each day they destroy the nation a bit more....
Okay, Debbie is (unfortunately!!!!) my senator and I have have her number on speed dial now. I just called for the third time this week, this time to tell her my opinion on her statements re: talk radio. I swear I am going to have a nervous breakdown before we can (and will!)take back the house and gain in the senate in 2010!
She is just realing because we do not talk just about politics, but cultural items, such as cheating husbands found in hotel rooms with young hookers because of the trend “Der-Slickmyster” started that certain proclivities are not really sex....
True, though it’s true also that lackluster ratings have followed Air America and that’s why it’s been dumped in places like D.C. (”oh, but 1260 has a weak signal!”) where
“Obama 1260” lasted only a couple weeks into 0’s adminstration. Reason: “ratings too low to be measured”.
But that’s the free market: if it succeeds, fine; if not,
it dies out. But now we have the gov to prop it up...
She is not the brightest candle in the box. I have listened to Paul W. Smith on WJR take her apart. Hell she lives a mile from me. There go the property values
Censor voices with which she disagrees is what she’s saying.
Typical liberal.
And violate the First Amendment!
It is rather lopsided. CNN/ABC/NBC/CBS/MSNBC... on one side. Rush on the other side. That's not enough of an advantage for the socialists to win.
A fairness doctrine violates freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Would you like the government walking in to your
Christian newspaper—or radio station—and saying, “We need to have other views on there too.”
So instead of a Christian religious service or talk show,
that station would be forced to run The Hour of Slack by The Church
of the SubGenius, or Farrakhan Speaks by the black Muslims,
or The Atheist Hour, or...
Is that right?
I would never force a liberal talk station to run a conservative show. Why do they want to force liberal
talk on conservative stations? Esp when the conservatives make money (I know, an ancient concept called “Capitalism”)
and libtalk doesn’t?
