After looking through this thread, I almost feel sorry for Michelle. I know what it means to have a high waist. I have friends who are extremely tall, and they have that high-heeled dilemma. However as a First Lady, NObie needs to just get over himself and let Michelle wear heels, even if he looks like a shorter doofus. You can’t look classy and presidential in flats.
I also know some gals who are terribly bow-legged, and anything above the knee looks awful on their bodies. Someone needs to keep reminding Michelle to heep her heels together, otherwise she looks like she’s got something hanging where there shouldn’t be something.
And my gosh. She ought to be allowed to pull rank on anyone, including the President, who doesn’t tell her that her pants have crept into her yaya.
Again, I wonder, where the hades is Oprah? Can’t she send a team of advisors to Michelle?
Jimmy Carter made her buy off the rack, lol. It’s impossible to find a photo of Pat Nixon in her ball gown. The only one found was a bad one from a ‘wax museum’.
Some interesting facts I dug up during my search;
Jackie Kennedy’s inaugural gown in 1961 was a concept by Mrs. Kennedy, made by Ethel Frankau at Bergdorf Goodman. It is described as off-white sleeveless gown in chiffon.
Pat Nixon wore a gold and silver gown made of mimosa silk satin, adorned with Austrian crystals, by Karen Stark.
Rosalynn Carter; The 1977 gown, made by Mary Matise.
Nancy Reagan 1981; Nancy Reagan wore a white, one-shoulder lace, silk satin sheath by James Galanos.
Barbara Bush; In 1989, she wore royal blue gown with velvet bodice by Arnold Scaasi.
Hillary Clinton in 1993; a violet beaded gown with blue-velvet silk overskirt by Sarah Phillips.
Mrs. Clinton opted for de la Renta in 1997 -sparkly gold-embroidered gown.
Laura Bush; in 2001, a Chantilly lace gown in ruby red by Michael Faircloth.
2005, Mrs. Bush opted for Oscar de la Renta - ice blue and silver embroidered tulle V-neck.
I think it is a reject of potential inaugural hats for Aretha Franklin.

Okay, my two cents... J. Crew is highly overrated. Fabrics look cheap (which is okay in your 20’s but in your 40’s better to have good fabrics.)

Cartoonish as it was, Aretha’s giant grey propeller was fun to look at, and she seemed to enjoy wearing it. This with Michelle Obama is weird. Maybe she’s impressed with grandma Obama, who has been known to work a spell or two?
I’ve never heard of Steve and Berry, but I think the dress they’re talking about actually came from White House/Black Market.

Yes Barack does look depressed having to be with her. You never see them holding hands or looking at each other, or smiling at each other.
I’m sitting here in a pair of wool cuffed trousers from J Crew that I’ve had for at least eight years. I love them, and they look brand new. I like J Crew because I wear a size and have a 35 inseam, and that’s practically the only place I can find pants. Also they have really good sales.
