'Morning Molly!
In re J. Simpson Smackdown: Yes, Nobama slammed Jessica Simpson during the Matt Lauer interview (one of the few times they didn't have audio problems, hehehe). Lauer made a remark about a magazine cover in which a picture was cropped so that Nobama was obscured from view, leaving Michelle and the 2 girls visible. Where Nobama would have been, the magazine plastered a pic of Jessica Simpson. Lauer mentioned this, and Nobama, trying to act faux put-off, said, 'Yeah, and she's fighting a weight problem, too, from the looks of it.' It wasn't a very funny remark (I mean, what guy goes out of his way to call a woman fat? Sheesh!)
The whole interview was inappropriate for a Super Bowl, and how come nobody mentioned that, when Lauer brought up the BCS issue, Nobama couldn't remember who Florida played (Oklahoma), if he is so in tune with college football??? He sputtered when talking about Florida, saying, 'Now, Florida, don't you wish you had played...uh...uh...uh...all the rest of teams in a championship game?' But he is SOOO smart...;-))
In re Hentoff: Where was he most recently? I heard that he was let go from somewhere big recently. I always thought he was a little bombastic, but maybe I have him confused with somebody else (like Savage or somebody ;-))
And did you know: Byron York has announced that he is leaving National Review, as of next Monday, to be the Washington Examiner as chief political correspondent! Apparently he will be writing daily, so now you have a new source to check in the morning: ExaminerPolitics.com...;-))

In re the Scruton article: I did not know that Arabs make up only 20% of the Muslim population worldwide. Yet it appears that the Arab variety of Islam (particulary the Saudi Wahabbi virulent strain) is responsible for 100% of the problem.
I think Scruton misses the point: Forgiveness and irony mean nothing when your new neighbors down the street, along with their friends who have also shown up recently in droves, insist on turning your community into the cesspit they just left. Jihadis and Islamists (a distinction without much of a difference) are not trying to find 'meaning'; they have replaced independent thought and free will with mindless religious ritual, and they think it'd be just fine if you did, too. In fact, they believe that the 'one, true religion' demands it. From ALL of us.
What makes America unique is our approach to the natural tension caused by the Madisonian Dilemma: The rights of the commmunity or state vs. the rights of the individual. There is no Bill of Rights in Europe. Nor in the Koran, for that matter.
Bottom line for them: The 80% of non-Arab Muslims need to find a way to throttle the Arab variety of Islam in order to head off a collossal cultural clash. It seems that this is necessary every 800 years or so with Islam.
Bottom line for the West: Immigration without assimilation = cultural suicide. We need only look at Europe to see where it is headed.

Here is an article on the smashing success that the EU has been:
Wildcat oil strikes: Europeans are finally waking up to the demise of democracy - UK Telegraph
Wonder why workers are going on stike in the UK? It's because employers are bringing in cheap labor from the poorest parts of the poorest EU countries, travel and living expenses paid, to displace locals in their jobs. And guess what? It is now
illegal for the EU member government (i.e. the U.K. gov't.) to do anything about it, according to the EU treaties....;-))
