Anyone have any experience with this nasty piece of spyware. I had not even heard about it, until this morning when I put it on my neighbor's computer. It would have been bad enough if I had done it to my own, it's horribe I did it to his...so...what's the best way of ridding myself of this evil interloper. And for once, I'm using that term about something other than Obama!
Thanks!
Perhaps.
I interpreted “put it on” as “installed”.
This is a very serious virus/trojan/downloader. You need to get help from a pro.
You could spend many, many hours fighting this thing and in the end reformatting and reinstalling Windows and all your programs.
It could be, but odds are that the infections are all on your C drive.
Is tere a way when I come to FR to go to the computer forum to just read computer posts? The info on here for computer stuff is oustanding. Also does teh search work for say antivirus or spoyware on FR?
I read all the political things and post but I would like to check out the computer stuff each day because it is great. Thanks and thanks for all the great advice.
Sometimes you need to run several different anti- virus/malware/cookies/spyware programs.
This one (Spybot) worked on a problem that several others didn’t get:

I am an avast fan also, every couple of years I try AVG but it doesn’t suit me as well.
Everyone has their preference but for my friends and family that have no interest in security, I install avast free for them because I consider it the simplest and least fussy of the free anti viruses and it is very effective.
Yes AVG it is good, although you have to click in to the schedule otherwise it is set to to do a full scan everday.
I have avast and have been thinking of going to avg. My problem with avast is that when it runs an update it slows my computer down. Also, I am on a wireless network and it appears that when I am offline, it shuts down my internet connection and I continually have to restore my service.
Any thoughts?
You have to rename the program to something else or it won't install or run. It's easy to remove once you rename things.
Learn from this mistake and take note how much time you’ve already wasted with this thing.
Then make complete backup copy disks of your system so you can reload windows afterward.
I’ve played the game many times before and have found that by just reloading windows and starting over from scratch is by far better than fighting with these bugs.
Not only is the fact that I am only 4 hours away from having a new operating system by reloading, but it is a system that is just as new as the day I bought my computer.
Malwarebytes is the ticket. My computer was taken over by Antivirus 2009 the first week of January. Malwarebytes was recommended to me indepently by three different sources. The problem was the virus wouldn’t let me download anything. I finally got help from a Dell tech who managed to get it install via a proxy something or other. It cleaned up the computer and then I downloaded McAfee security that my carrier offers with regular service. I should have done that long ago. Good luck.
I just go rid of it. It required backing up all my data, erasing my disk, and restoring my operating system. And even then I’ve got issues with Windows Media. It is a nasty piece of work, and if there is a positive side the it’s not the kind of software that finds and steals all your financial information. Don’t go and pay for it trying to stop the annoyance. They do take your credit card number and sell it, or so I’ve been told.
Do you occasionally defrag your hardrive?
About once a month.
I would just delete avast and then reinstall it.
Thanks. I will try that and let you know how it turns out.
You can also try another program called ‘Smitfraudfix.exe’..
It should be run in ‘Safe Mode’.
It pops up in a ‘cmd’ box and you just complete steps 1 through 3 and reboot.
Seems to work on a lot of different ‘hijack’ software.
