Kubla Khan

  In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree :
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.
So twice five miles of fertile ground
With walls and towers were girdled round :
And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills,
Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree ;
And here were forests ancient as the hills,
Enfolding sunny spots of greenery.

But oh ! that deep romantic chasm which slanted
Down the green hill athwart a cedarn cover !
A savage place ! as holy and enchanted
As e'er beneath a waning moon was haunted
By woman wailing for her demon-lover !
And from this chasm, with ceaseless turmoil seething,
As if this earth in fast thick pants were breathing,
A mighty fountain momently was forced :
Amid whose swift half-intermitted burst
Huge fragments vaulted like rebounding hail,
Or chaffy grain beneath the thresher's flail :
And 'mid these dancing rocks at once and ever
It flung up momently the sacred river.
Five miles meandering with a mazy motion
Through wood and dale the sacred river ran,
Then reached the caverns measureless to man,
And sank in tumult to a lifeless ocean :
And 'mid this tumult Kubla heard from far
Ancestral voices prophesying war !
The shadow of the dome of pleasure
Floated midway on the waves ;
Where was heard the mingled measure
From the fountain and the caves.
It was a miracle of rare device,
A sunny pleasure-dome with caves of ice !

A damsel with a dulcimer
In a vision once I saw :
It was an Abyssinian maid,
And on her dulcimer she played,
Singing of Mount Abora.
Could I revive within me
Her symphony and song,
To such a deep delight 'twould win me,
That with music loud and long,
I would build that dome in air,
That sunny dome ! those caves of ice !
And all who heard should see them there,
And all should cry, Beware ! Beware !
His flashing eyes, his floating hair !
Weave a circle round him thrice,
And close your eyes with holy dread,
For he on honey-dew hath fed,
And drunk the milk of Paradise.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Sorry for your loss. Your quandary about loss and reunion is shared with us all. I find it uplifting to meet people I knew who loved who I loved.

The Flower

Once in a golden hour
I cast to earth a seed.
Up there came a flower,
The people said, a weed.

To and fro they went
Thro’ my garden-bower,
And muttering discontent
Cursed me and my flower.

Then it grew so tall
It wore a crown of light,
But thieves from o’er the wall
Stole the seed by night;

Sow’d it far and wide
By every town and tower,
Till all the people cried,
‘Splendid is the flower.’

Read my little fable:
He that runs may read.
Most can raise the flowers now
For all have got the seed.

And some are pretty enough,
And some are poor indeed;
And now again the people
Call it but a weed.

Alfred Lord Tennyson

Thank you, LadyJ.

I hate that families drift apart; but it is inevitable.
Everyone gets involved with their immediate family and
as the family gets larger, it is difficult to get everyone together.

It is great to see you here for Love week.

Have a week of lots of hugs and mucho love.

We grew up in a small town and married people there and most stayed there, with the rest moving not far. School chums, people from the old neighborhood come to pay their respects and remember old times.

Jim was to deliver letters to Senators Specter, Collins and Snowe this morning.

Everyone was suppose to meet in front of Specter’s office. Melanie Morgan and Move America Forward were to join up with the FReepers this morning. I hope all went according to plans.

If you hear anything, let us know. We are with them in spirit!

A cousin’s two daughters and their children flew down from Alaska. My cousin is no longer with us. It was wonderful to see her daughters again. It had been 11 years.

I grew up in a small town and there are school chums who I always see at other friends’ funerals.

Small towns are very special places to raise children. Everyone knows everyone.

And thank you and Lori, for the lovely opening in post 1517!

If wishes come true,
(You wished me a week of hugs and love - thank you)
I'll be getting hugs and love, this week!
I'm hoping you have an "in" with the 'wish fairy'!
