My parents used to have an lp record with songs from the Civil War. I don’t remember much about the songs but there were pics of Lincoln, before and after. It always struck me how much difference there was. He aged so much and looked so sad at the end.

I can appreciate where he was coming from but “preserving the union” was the worst thing that ever happened to the Republic.
It wasn’t the Civil War that aged Abe - it was the constant insane yammering of Helen Thomas questioning his military tactics.
