Ridley Scott to Remake The A-Team
BBC ^

Posted on 01/28/2009 2:03:26 PM PST by nickcarraway

Director Ridley Scott has signed up to produce the big screen remake of 1980s TV show The A-Team, according to industry paper Variety.

The film, due out in 2010, will be updated so that the army veterans will have fought in the Middle East and not in Vietnam, Variety adds.

It says Joe Carnahan will direct and hopes to make a "popcorn movie" that "reflects on the real world".

The cult TV show starred George Peppard as Hannibal and Mr T as BA Baracus.

Dirk Benedict, as Face, and Dwight Schultz, as Murdoch, completed the quartet of mercenaries "accused of a crime they didn't commit".

Carnahan said 20th Century Fox had asked him "to make it as emotional, real and accessible as possible without cheesing it up", Variety added.

Actors including Bruce Willis and Ice Cube have been rumoured to be on board but no names have been confirmed.

I didn’t see it as anti-gun. I think it was in an 8 AM slot. In the end the bad guys got captured.

They have some funny politically incorrect bits in it as well; Hannibal disguising as multi-racials and making fun of puffs.

My 10 year old and I watch it for free on Netflix over the broadband. It’s a hoot.

Ah, one of the original "bling" men.
And I always wondered why all that bling didn't go, "clink" when they were sneaking around.

Scott did Blackhawk Down as well, so he may actually be able to turn it into something watchable.

Without the original cast, forget it. Nobody’s as good as Dwight Schultz.

There is no way you can replace George Peppard, or Face, or Howl’n MadDog Murdoch.

Jim Carrey as Murdoch? just throwing it out there

The movie will never be as good as the series - there was a great chemistry among the cast.

I’m waiting for a new Matt Helm movie, if they portray him as he was in the book, he will be one bad dude (Bond beware).... if they mess it up it will still be better than the Dean Martin version.

No sweat. I missed the context of your post.

Didn’t notice that on MacGyver, but I had sort of fallen off TV by then. I think that came on after the PC manifesto.

I was checking out their bios on a fan site and apparently Dwight Schulz was a “right wing AM talker”. He regularly did effeminate imitations.

In an episode I saw the other night Hanibal dresses up like a black dude and upon escape yells to BA “Black is beautiful.” To which Mr. T growls “Not on YOU it ain’t!!”

There is also an episode where Murdoch has to give blood to BA. Lots of “brother” jokes followed.

This stuff would never make it out of the writers in todays day and age.

I know, I watched the A-Team every time it was on. Do you know if any episodes are released on DVD yet?

good for 5 minutes of non-witing filler in every show!

fiscally conservative budget.
