A group of Evanston friends thought it was funny when a man fell on the ice, but the situation quickly turned ugly when the fallen man drew a gun and shot one of them.
The incident occurred about 12:30 a.m. Saturday when the victim was standing outside with friends near 704 Florence in Evanston, according to a report from Evanston police.
When the group saw a man fall on the ice, they started to laugh at him, but he wasn't amused. The man pulled a gun and fired a shot, striking the victim in the ankle, the report said.
The victim was treated at a local hospital, the report said. No one else was injured.
The gunman was described only as a man wearing dark clothing.
Further information was not immediately available.

Maybe, but probably not. The story just sounds too plausible.

I bet it would change even faster if this clown had shot your daughter in the chest instead. I have had a gun stuck in my face while unarmed. Only luck, fate, whatever kept the violent illiterate little punk from killing me. That feeling of utter helplessness never goes away, and having felt it, I would never want to deprive any other law-abiding citizen the legal right (they already have the moral right) to possess a firearm.
I guess it all depends on your perspective.

Rush better be careful, those Ill. guys don’t play. O will probably send the SS to do his dirty work. I assume he will change the Secret Service into his version of the SS.

I dont know who Heinlein is, but you have a great point there.
Don't know who Robert Heinlein is? Say it isn't so! He was one of the better science fiction writers. If you like science fiction at all, I recommend looking him up.

The victim, Nelson Muntz, 9, of Springfield, remains in stable condition.

He was one of the better science fiction writers."one of the better"??
Like Michael Jordan was one of the better basketball players?

We laugh.
But there will be more of this.
Much more.
More than anyone could ever imagine.

Agree. This story only serves to make gun owners look like neanderthals, when that could not be further from the truth.

The man pulled a gun and fired a shot,
More proof that gun control doesn't work. IL is one of two states where citizens cannot legally carry concealed weapons.
And it must have been concealed since onlookers wouldn't have been laughing at someone carrying openly (don't even know if that's legal anywhere in IL)

Large beautiful homes and stuffed to the gills with brainless liberals. Evanston is one of those picure postcard kind of places, but you sure as hell wouldn't want to live there.
TRUE along the lakefront and near Northwestern. But over in the western portion it's pretty much law of the jungle.

No fool. We have legal guns and that is the proof that americans (in general) do not succumb to that kind of selfish knee jerk behavior. Unfortunately, americans are becoming more and more like you.
maybe we should outlaw private ownership of automobiles. People die in those you know. It’s a proven fact that trains, planes, and buses are safer.
And it’s not fair that some people can afford nice cars and others can’t. We really should confiscate all the cars. I know you don’t feel that way now, but just wait until YOU get killed in a car. THEN you will feel different, won’t you?
See how stupid your european point of views are?
