Jacqueline Kennedy lifts the skirt of her ivory double-faced silk satin twill inaugural ball gown, designed by Oleg Cassini, as she and her husband, President John F. Kennedy, leave their Georgetown home in the snowfall en route to the inaugural concert in Washington, D.C., Jan. 19, 1961.
Lady Bird Johnson, center, her daughters Luci Baines, left, and Lynda Bird, right, model their inaugural gowns in New York City in this Jan. 12, 1961 file photo.
Helen Taft's 1909 inaugural ball gown is part of the 'First Ladies at the Smithsonian' exhibit at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington on Dec. 19, 2008.
Geez..they ALL look beautiful. Sometimes gowns just don’t photograph as well as they actually look. That being said...anyone will look better than the Bush girls. They NEVER dressed appropriately for any occassion, and that’s the truth.
To me her figure is that of a linebacker.
She’s got no hips - no curves. Frankly, not very lady-like, feminine, and certainly not attractive.
But, that’s just me.
Anyone else get the sense that Michelle’s gown was a lousy knock off of Nancy Reagan’s gorgeous frock?
I got 7/15
Look at the Traps on her!
“And the best thing about it is it comes with its own toilet paper! I just grab a little off the bodice every time I need to tinkle!”
Most likely, with Michelle, it’s only every other time.
One can NOT make a silk purse from a sow’s ear.
That rust colored gown Laura wore was terrible. She looked great in the rest of them. Mrs. Dictators gown would have been ok if not for the pompoms on it. Nancy Reagan is the winner.
Her shoulders are the wrong slope for a dress like that. Compare the slope of her shoulders with Nancy Reagan’s. It’s not that they’re bad (they look very muscular), they’re just NOT for that style. The one-shouldered look is for a different figure style.
Oh no, is that David Gergen second from left?
“Is it getting warmer in here?”
The Queen Mum always draws large crowds of loyal royal admirers and well-wishers.
Agree - she looks much better in fitted silks and wrap or sarong style dresses. Gem tones are best. Urg - you’d think after the red/black atrocity on nomination night she’d want something completely different. Sadly this isn’t “it” either.
I got 12 out of 15 correct.
Toidy paper toga. It’s all the rage!
Laura Bush’s bright red dress is by far the most beautiful, IMO. And I hate to admit it, but I also like Hillary’s blue dress.
