Prayers for the pup.
I thought you'd like to see a picture of the little cutie that you are praying for....here's Candoo:
Also, thank you so much to the other groups that are pinging their lists to this post ~ God bless you...
Vets offer a huge amount of free and discounted service in situations like this. But most of an ordinary vet bill isn’t money that goes into the vet’s pocket. Much of it is for diagnostics, like bloodwork and urinalysis, that either gets sent to the same outside labs that do human testing, or for certain tests that many vets can do in-house, require non-reusable supplies and the services of already very low-paid technicians. For a critically ill animal, there is also the cost of 24/7 monitoring by vet techs, who, like lab technicians, are already very low-paid. And for a small vet hospital with limited critical care facilities, caring for a non-paying animal may mean having to refer an deep-pocketed owner to somewhere else, with an animal needing similar care.
Unfortunately, there’s a virtually infinite supply of innocent, helpless animals who have been abused or neglected and ended up in need of expensive veterinary care, and vets would quickly go bankrupt if they didn’t learn to put strict limits on how many of these animals they will care for at a financial loss. And of course, vets also give a lot of discounted or free care to long time paying customers who are no longer able to pay for even basic care for a beloved pet. I remember a very awkward scene in one of my vet’s offices a few years back, where an elderly woman who had clearly been disabled by a stroke, was presented with a bill for her kitty, who had developed some chronic illness, and needed several vet visits recently. The woman, with only half her face moving but tears welling up in both eyes, was explaining her monthly income vs. the several recent vet bills, and saying she just couldn’t continue doing this and was afraid she would just have to have the cat put to sleep next time. The cat looked perfectly fine, so wasn’t in a condition where it might have been kinder to let it go — it just needed regular, simple treatment that the woman couldn’t afford. Knowing this vet, I’m sure he starting giving her deep discounts that didn’t really even cover his out-of-pocket costs. But there must have been at least a couple of hundred similarly situated elderly people within a 10 mile radius of this vet.
prayers up for complete healing and restoration.
I know this sounds crazy....but did they check him for parvo? Parvo has bloody stools and vomitting of blood. ask ASAP. If it should be he contracted it, the time is short. We have a dog who survived it...I know he was hit by a car, but...the symptoms may not all be because of that. Just a thought.
<< I know this sounds crazy....but did they check him for parvo? >>
I just called the vet to ask ~ they said yes, that they did test him for it.
Thank you for the suggestion though, just in case...
Schmeckel Cat sends prayers. He recently lost a leg, but is doing just fine.
I'll bet Schmeckel is pretty pissed off that he/she has to run around with no pants on.......LOL!
Very cute...but still a poor baby.
Prayers for healing for Candoo.
Copying & pasting an UPDATE on Candoo from our club president:
<< Candoo returned to his foster home this morning . He is very thin! His ribs can be seen poking out of his sides. He has gobs and gobs of medication to take and a special bland food to be on. He has been diagnosed with a severe gastro-intestinal virus, bleeding ulcer and borderline anemia. To date his bill runs over $2500 and he still has at least two surgeries ahead of him (amputation and neuter). But, he is out of the hospital for weekend and seems to be pretty happy. We’ve been here before with him but we all hope this is the healthy turning point for him. >>
Thank you so much to all of you for your prayers - I seriously believe that made a huge difference in Candoo’s recovery. If you wouldn’t mind, please keep him in your thoughts & prayers if you could as he continues to fight to recover...
What a sweet little face! If I wasn’t on the other side of the country I’d take him!
I am glad Candoo is not in my state. If he was he would be here by now....
I just have a soft spot because from these little guys, whose name spelled backwards is g-o-d I've learned the meaning of real devotion and unconditional love. Besides, I've never had one human that howled and pranced around simply because I came home, have you? Hehehe.....:-)
I ahve posted this snippet before. I was nicknamed Ellie Mae years ago. Now I am getting a bit :smarter”. Vet bills are are costly. I am down to to two little house puppies and two wolved. Hopefully the wolves have babies this year, not holding my breath though.
We were at six until the past two years, the other two died. One of old age and the other I believe a stroke.
I use to walk out of my house and have raccoons jumping on my shoulders and trying to get in my car with me.....
Thank you for the ping. I'll be interested to see how Candoo does. If I were a betting person (which I am), I'd bet he recovers.
Still in my prayers.
Thank you so much for the update! Prayers continue...
Joyful prayers up! God Bless you!
