The Labrador Retriever certainly has a lock on the hearts of American dog lovers. For the eighteenth straight year, the Lab has topped the American Kennel Club's list of the nation's 10 most popular purebred dog breeds. The top 10 dogs are ranked as follows: Labrador Retriever, Yorkshire Terrier, German Shepherd Dog, Golden Retriever, Beagle, Boxer, Dachshund, Bulldog, Poodle and Shi Tzu.

Meanie.
Thanks for the pic. I’m not computer literate and haven’t learned how to post pictures. Mine has more white. These are not acknowledged by the AKC, so you can’t show them. In fact, these poor babies used to be destroyed because they didn’t conform to AKC standards. Parti’s are supposed to be more clever, and I’m beginning to agree.
Did he make a boo boo on the rug? He’s got “the look”.
I have a labradinger (black lab springer mix). Does that count?
Yes, lab sized with all the energy and bounce of a springer.
OMG!!! My labradinger’s name is Shadow for the same reason.
Little Miss "mind-your-own-business" Sophie.
8th place, hrmph! They obviously have never had the honor of meeting me!!
Duchess of Valley Brook aka Madam
I’ve got a Shetland Sheepdog. My wife’s choice; I wouldn’t have picked a Sheltie myself.
But, what an excellent dog. I’m surprised they’re not more popular.
Back on topic, she’s the second best dog I ever had. The first was a black lab named Leroy that I had as a teen. Leroy was more of a companion than a pet.
My current dog. Awesome breed.
Backyard breeders and puppy mills did their best to ruin the Cocker (I have three well-bred, true to breed, Cockers)... I fear the movie Marley and Me will make everyone want a Lab and in a few months the shelters will be over run with puppy mill labs, like they have been with puppy mill cockers...and the fact Obama wants a labradoodle they will be overrun with that breed as well.
Way too often. It’s crazy, but this 65 pound plus dog will walk between my legs. When I come home, Shadow waits at the door, you can see her at the side light window and she’s jumping 5 to 6 feet in the air at the sight of me.
She scares the daylights out of the delivery drivers and door to door irritants so she earns her keep.
When I take her for a walk around our neighborhood, she waits until we reach the house with another black lab named, you guessed it, Shadow, to take care of her “Duty”.
Mine has a thin white line down her chest, the springer motteling (spots) on the snout, springer ears and tail. That tail has broken several glasses left on the coffee table.
Shadow loves the water, she will wade facing the shore and herd fish all day up at the cabin if you let her.
She loves to counter surf, has set my kitchen on fire (that’s a whole different story).
She is pound puppy rescue and has been the healthiest dog I have had the pleasure of owning.
I’ve loved by Golden (retreiver) girls, but they have broken my heart with health problems and cancer.
I hear you on the Marley thing...happens whenever a dog movie comes out. However, have you seen the AKC advertisement featuring Marley? (Though, after seeing that movie, it casts the dog in a very bad light - so perhaps it will scare people off!) I know the breed clubs, the AKC, and local shelters are doing a much better job of trying to pre-empt emotional buying like that.
As for Obama...well, he strikes me as more of the type to appreciate a snake. But then, he probably has enough of those in his cabinet appointees.
