NEW YORK (AP) Run-DMC once hailed themselves as the Kings of Rock, so it's fitting that the pioneering rappers have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Run-DMC joins the heavy metal band Metallica, guitarist and former Yardbirds member Jeff Beck; soul singer and guitarist Bobby Womack and doo-wop group Little Anthony and the Imperials as this year's inductee class.
Besides the main inductees, rockabilly singer Wanda Jackson got a nod for the early influence category, and the sidemen inductees are session musician Spooner Oldham and two of Elvis Presley's musicians drummer D.J. Fontana and bassist Bill Black.

“Nekes Mumbi Moody” is a great name for a band, though.
Well it depends on who becomes elgible that year. Metallica definitely belongs.
The induction’s where it should be this year, where the Hall is.
The new Metalica album is SUPERB.
It’s supposed to be the ROCK hall.
Yeah thats what I thought, where does RunDMC fall into the rock category????
Run DMC was great. If nothing else, they brought back Aerosmith.
Pointless without Jethro Tull. At least they have a Grammy for Heavy Metal Album of the year.
I think AC/DC is already in the RHOF.. so HA!
There are few successful hard rock bands.
That’s why it was such a tragedy when Metallica turned into a pop band. (Do I need to name the Album?)
Now they are imitating there younger selves. They are bad copycats and obviously don’t remember.
Doubly pointless without Alice Cooper.
[but hall of fame or not, Metallica will never forget Tull’s “Crest Of A Knave” album].....;-D
Jump start...or tow me away.
I wouldn’t call them “great”.
Um, was it the one with the black cover?
I don’t know about the HOF, but the buying public doesn’t seem to place much of a premium on musicianship.
And let’s be honest for a bit here. I’m a big Yes fan myself, but they’ve put out a fair amount of self-indulgent crap over the years (to some extent that’s a hazard of playing prog-rock). I’d still like to see them get in, though.
Unfortunately, you're probably right about the musicianship.
Yes have put out some stuff that could be labeled self-indulgent over the years, as you point out, but they've also put out some incredible stuff that has stood the test of time. They helped define Prog-rock, and to me they are way more worthy of inclusion that many bands who've already been inducted. Just my opinion.
I’ve heard bits & pieces of their new album & wasn’t impressed. IMO, they went downhill FAST after Cliff was killed & have become total sell-outs.
