In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
audacious \aw-DAY-shus\ adjective
1. daring, bold
2. insolent
3. marked by originality and verve *
* Indicates the sense illustrated in the example sentence.
Example sentence:
The band has been making original and creative music for well over ten years, but their latest album is by far their most audacious to date.
Did you know?
Shakespeare used "audacious" seven times in his plays. That in itself wasn't exactly an act of bold originality. The word, which comes from the Latin root "audac-" ("bold"), had been around for decades. But the Bard was the first to use "audacious" in its "insolent" sense ("Obey, audacious traitor; kneel for grace," Henry VI Part 2), and he may have been the first to use the adverb "audaciously." "Audacious" itself was something of an innovation in the 16th century: it was one of the earliest "-acious" words in English. Subsequently, we've added lots of "-acious" adjectives to our lexicon, including "pugnacious," "loquacious," "voracious," and even, in the 19th century, "bodacious" (which is most likely a combination of "bold" and "audacious").
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Too bad you lack the proper (male) equipment to pay that thing the tribute it deserves.
jagoffs.
The Senate has passed legislation that would make it a federal crime to scalp tickets to Barack Obama's inauguration.
there is absolutely NO END to this insanity.
I have no doubt it is far worse for you in such close proximity than for most of the rest of us.
OT, since my computer crash I no longer use IE as my browser. Firefox has a built in spellchecker that puts those little red squiggly line’s under mis-spelled words (or ones not in its’ dictionary) and while I have been adding words, such as screen names from here, I absolutely love seeing that red line under 0’s name anytime it appears in one of my posts!!!!
xshub and i were talking about that the other day. i don't think anyone who hasn't spent any amount of time here can realize exactly what it is like. most people can go through their daily lives, even freepers, without being aware of who the president is and what party is in power. living here, there is no escape from it. it comes into play in untold different ways.
they only have days left before the obama team gets in their faces about it....great homework as usual.
They’re selling suction cup signs for your car’s rear window that say “Obama on board” in the 7-11 by my apartment. Everywhere I look there are signs and stickers that blab, “we won we won we won.” Talk about unmitigated audacity, first we should raise the voting age to 40 and second, payback is a bitch.
OBAMA on board?? LOL! that’s a new one on me!!

They should sell ones that say:

I’ve often told women that they were screwy because they wouldn’t talk to me when I stank. Science proves me correct.
