**The 2008-09 BCS National Championship Game Thread**
Posted on 01/08/2009 11:15:31 AM PST by GOP_Raider
We've reached the final game of the college football season. I know that we've had some arguments regarding who really should be the national champion (and due to my own bias I've tried to stay away from it). But anyway, somebody decided #'s 1 and 2 for this game a long time ago and here they are.

The BCS National Championship Game: Florida vs. Oklahoma (8:00 pm, FOX) The last two Heisman trophy winners take to the turf for the waterford crystal shaped football from Sears (or at least it used to be from Sears). Leading up to this game, we've heard about who really should be the top ranked team and I'll say this. One, possibly both of these two teams can end any argument tonight. We know the offensive playmakers by now. Tim Tebow. Sam Bradford. Jermaine Gresham. Lewis Murphy. Juaquin Iglesias. But will the defenses even matter tonight?

Congrats! Though I never doubted they’d win this one. There sure a lot of sore losers here, aren’t there?

I’m amazed at all the people on this thread who think that because the teams didn’t score 100 points it was “slow and boring”. I was totally into the game the whole time, I thought it was a very well-played defensive game until the 4th quarter.

Resting on the laurels of yesteryear is no basis for the contemporary, imho.
Wow, this thread has gotten out of hand.

Beats the HELL out of the Obama-nation!””
this is an unjust comment. As I recall Oklahoma went voted in a landslide for McCain, beating every state in the country.
Both teams played well. For a change, the defense on both sides rose to the occasion. The defense would shut down every other contender on a night like this one—give them credit.

those were the best two teams in college football out there tonight, period!””
Hand-down, they are the two best and they have the defenses that rose to the occasion.

Nice work. Its almost structured like the NFL playoffs only w/o AFC and NFC conferences.
I like it as well, it reduces the influence of being a BCS member and the amount of automatic bids.
As a Texas alumni and fan, I loved seeing Bob Stoops choke again.
As a Big XII fan, for the love of God, Stoops and OU manage to embarrass us again and contribute to the bad reputation the conference gets. TTU and OSU losing their games was bad enough, but to have only Texas win their bowl game in the Big XII South, and have three teams from the Big XII North win. This is just ridiculous.
In some ways, I'm surprised that OU fans aren't more upset with Stoops - he consistently gets great talent and then blows it. I can only imagine what Texas Tech or Oklahoma State could do with that amount of talent.

Im happy the Gators won. But they need a playoff. This six week layoff is crap and is detrimental to the game. I'll second that comment.
Both teams tonight played like it was opening weekend where the defense is way ahead of the offense.
Very difficult to maintain offensive sharpness when there is no game-speed action. Practice, no matter how intense, cannot substitute for actual game-speed.
Maybe someday the BCS division will recruit smarter players like the lower divisions of college football and have a playoff like every other sport.
Why are the lower college divisions' players smarter? They must be smarter since they play right through finals and miss so much class time.
The biggest load of BS is the old "but they will be playing during finals and miss too much class time" excuse for no playoff in the BCS Division.
Then you see the games and notice some of the majors and think to yourself, "What does a student majoring in 'Entertainment Event Management' actually do for his degree?"

I do not blame this loss on Stoops...I blame it on the offensive Coach for not using the talent of Bradford in the red zone....Both defenses showed up to play and despite the fact my sooners lost...Nothing can be taking away from the many seasons that they have been in this position....Lot of teams would love to be there.....Texas would never ever hold up to Florida and neither would USC who only plays big 10 teams and nearly every one of them lost their bowl games and it cannot be said about the big 12....I think the SE and Big conference has consistently put out great teams.....kudos to Florida and Tewoy..He plaed a great game and deserved to win..From an Okie

Congrats to the Gators! I thought the game was great - I was stunned and pleased by the OU defense (because everyone knows we have no defense in the Big 12..lol) - both teams played well and it was a fun game to watch.
Congrats to everyone for a fun season - win or lose - and I think very little blood was shed on this thread this season too....a few harsh words, but little blood.
On to basketball....then the wailing about the heat from our part of the country...then the light on the horizon - AUGUST and College Football Season.. whohoo!!
