**The 2008-09 BCS National Championship Game Thread**

Posted on 01/08/2009 11:15:31 AM PST by GOP_Raider

We've reached the final game of the college football season. I know that we've had some arguments regarding who really should be the national champion (and due to my own bias I've tried to stay away from it). But anyway, somebody decided #'s 1 and 2 for this game a long time ago and here they are.

The BCS National Championship Game: Florida vs. Oklahoma (8:00 pm, FOX) The last two Heisman trophy winners take to the turf for the waterford crystal shaped football from Sears (or at least it used to be from Sears). Leading up to this game, we've heard about who really should be the top ranked team and I'll say this. One, possibly both of these two teams can end any argument tonight. We know the offensive playmakers by now. Tim Tebow. Sam Bradford. Jermaine Gresham. Lewis Murphy. Juaquin Iglesias. But will the defenses even matter tonight?

Yep. OU can move the ball in a hurry against Florida. The line is blowing some huge holes open and this guy Bradford is the real deal. Nice touch.

This one is looking like a repeat of the 2000 National Championship.

Int for UF in End Zone. Juggle by the OU receiver.

Major Wright with the INT.

Great Game.

Looks Bradford forced it. UF Defense is keep them in the game. Offensive is looking sad.

OU was the better team in the first half; cheated themselves out of at least 2 field gooals. I blame Stoops. He’s gonna lose this game just like he did last year’s Fiesta Bowl 48-28 blowout loss to West Virginia.

Here’s part of ESPN’s summary of that Fiesta Bowl game:

“Despite all the great things West Virginia did, Oklahoma was in position to take control of the game in the third quarter but blew it with a couple of poor decisions. Oklahoma’s defense forced two straight three-and-out possessions and then scored a touchdown to cut the deficit to 20-15. Instead of kicking the PAT to cut the lead to 4, Oklahoma inexplicably went for the two-point conversion and failed. To make matters worse, Oklahoma followed that with an onside kick that West Virginia recovered in Oklahoma’s territory. That gave West Virginia a short field and put the OU defense in a tough bind. WVU responded with a six-play drive, capped by a 17-yard TD run by Noel Devine.

“OU’s decisions were particularly bad because the Sooners were taking control of the game and had lots of time remaining in the third quarter. However, Bob Stoops and his staff became impatient and took an unnecessary gamble that blew up in their collective faces. Those decisions will certainly be regretted by Stoops and his staff.”

Well it's halftime and here's my thoughts. Oklahoma gotta be kicking themselves for being down deep in UF red zone and came away with nothing. OTOH they are handling UF pretty well especially the speed on offense. On the local radio show here they basically didn't think Oklahoma had any chance to even come close. They were saying UF would score 45 points atleast.

As for me I bought Ann Coulter's book tonight and the first chapter is great.

To Florida’s credit, they have bent but not broken under OU’s pressure. It is still a game.

Dunno. I've been a long time Gator. We have a habit of doing some silly stuff.

So far.

OU Defense wow. Bradford wow.

UF Offensive line is on the ground. UF Defense saving UF’s bacon.

Tebow, normal.

You will never see a major program go for a field goal on fourth and one. I would have been shocked if they went for 3.

Split title, here we come after that first half. That was hardly inspiring football, by either team. Horrible play-calling by Oklahoma, who should be up by 14. USC boat-races both of these teams.

Oklahoma seems to have had real success running their hurry-up offense. Why are they doing it so infrequently?

I agree with Okla going for it on 4th and goal. But on the 3rd down play they stacked the line on the right side and then they run to the left. If they want to out muscle UF they should have gone to the ride side on that play.
