Talker Michael Smerconish launches nationally, supported by CBS and Dial Global

That’s been the speculation in Radio-Info’s T-R-I newsletter – that it would be a joint project, and today CBS and Dial Global confirm that its first affiliate will be in market #1. That’s Buckley-owned WOR, New York (710), which has already been revamping its lineup with the departure of Bill O'Reilly. Philadelphia-based lawyer Smerconish began doing mornings (6-9am) on CBS-owned “Big Talker 1210” WPHT in 2003 and recently has been simulcasting that show on sister WHFS (1580) in Washington, D.C.

But this new show with CBS and Dial Global is completely separate from the WPHT/WHFS morning show – a live noon-2pm program that debuts on February 2. (Though WOR, New York will carry it on a delayed basis, from 8-10pm.) Dial Global co-President David Landau says “We are thrilled to partner with Michael and CBS Radio and expand his program nationally.” While Dial Global Senior VP of News and Talk Amy Bolton says listeners “are looking for a fresh and unpredictable talent who sees the issues from all sides” – and in fact, Smerconish made waves last Fall by endorsing Barack Obama.

I believe his endorsement of Obama was meant to give him cover when criticizing the annointed one.

LOL! That implies he intends to criticize Obama! Hah hah! This guy used to be pretty decent but of late he's really drinking his own bath water. He thinks he's the center of the universe, listen to a random hour and you'll hear more "I" and "ME" than in an Obama speech. But you won't hear him talk about Obama. Nope. Not anymore. Can't defend him but won't criticize him. Gutless. Maybe on his syndicated show he does, but his main franchise in the mornings here is almost no politics now unless it's to say something mocking Sarah Palin. If Obama's numbers go up, that will change and he'll crow about how right he was, but not a word until then.

He endorsed zero and Hillary before that. I never listen. He’s a lib. I’ve discovered the BlackBerry is more fun on the train ride home.

I don’t listen to much talk radio anymore, and this guy is a nobody from the beginning.

The question that comes to mind is...why, exactly?

He’s a total squish with no strong opinions on anything.
