Move over, Fluffy and Fido. There's a new batch of pet names in town: "people" names! Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI), the nation's largest and oldest provider of pet health insurance, scoured its database of more than 466,000 insured pets to find the most popular dog and cat names of 2008. (Animals not insured by VPI were not included in the survey.)

But for those who like to think outside the (litter) box, VPI also came up with a list of unusual pet names, like Meatwad and Miss Fuzzbutt. The company's employees selected 50 unusual dog names and 50 unusual cat names, and then voted for the top 10 in each category. See which names were up to snuff.

My dog Pelosi’d on the floor when I was at work today.

Her Murtha is sore from her punishment.

I don’t let ours get away with anything but it makes no difference. They’re like two-year-olds that never grow out of that stage. You tell them “NO!” and it just encourages them to do it again and again. LOL!

A cat-forbidden childhood? Horrors! I’ve had cats in my life since the day my parents brought me home from the hospital and placed me in the crib. They had a huge tom cat that hopped in the crib, gave me a sniff, then lay down beside me. Mom said that any time I got fussy, he’d snuggle up next to me and purr, and I’d quiet down.
Some kids had security blankets; I had a security kitty. LOL!

Yep, living in the boonies and having room for all the cats is an advantage. But the disavantage is people thinking we need MORE! 8-/

Gotta share this one from a friend, whose brother had a beloved kitty named PUMA. Ordinary enough, until she told me it stood for Pain Unto My Ass. Love it! ;-)

Beautiful!! Maine Coon? Our Maine Coon, Duchess, went to Rainbow Bridge last year. Looked a lot like yours, only darker.
