Because there are too many PC treehuggers on the board.
Is this an mass exit from Yellowstone? Animals know something we don’t?
Yeah, people and their “need” for more and more land are not a part of the problem. Give me a break.
I am on the animals side and am one of the few here who will come out and say it. I am an NRA member and a vegetarian, but may of you give gun owners a bad name.
But the problem is more likely to be people encroaching on their territorial home. I see it here in PA and it is no different elsewhere.
I hope the housing debacle slows it down, as open spaces, and the wildlife which live in them, are a great part of what make this country great.

Boulder is just outside of Denver CO. Yellowstone is in NW Wyoming.
As a matter of historic fact, cougar killed only three people in some 80 years in all of America. After the animal rights /commies got the “endangered species’ concept abused so that a mere law was able to trump the American Constitutional guarantee of the right to self defense, then and only then, did cougars began killing people.
Read what the first Roosevelt Naturalist at Yellowstone Park wrote in his book, The Yellowstone Nature Book. Writing of predators, on page 109, “they have learned to their bitter cost, that nearly every man and boy carries a rifle”.
That NatureNazi in the nice uniform at the “Open Space Park” is a Constitutional violator, in that he enforces your being disarmed when you enter the park. As the nice sige in the cutsy roofed bulletin board says, “ACHTUNG ! ! OPEN CARRY IST VERBOTEN! ! !”
Sorry, the above should have been “OPEN CARRY IS PROHIBITED”. I must have been momentarily possessed by some ghost from the Third Reich. ;-)
Consider, if you actually like animals, that predators leave “wilderness areas” and prefer living near people. Why, you ask? Because that is where all those yummy pets, livestock, and kids/older people are.
Still think you want to allow predators to kill and eat people? Removing American’s right to be at all times armed (Jefferson) does, always, reduce some innocent human to cougar scat.

Then let me ask you a very difficult question:
What do you think of “zero population growth”, and of others who warn about the dangers of “overpopulation”?
- John
Friend, when I was born the US population was around 135 million and it’s a shade over 300 million now. Just where do you suggest the increased population are supposed to live?
Being an NRA member and vegetarian doesn’t seem to have given you a lot of common sense. As our population has increased so have the number of animal rights activists. In CA the cougar was protected by ballot initiative in the early 90’s by those animal rights activists playing to the emotions of the electorate.
In areas that were built up in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s in So CA they are now having mountain lion encounters between them and humans and their pets. The lions have lost their fear of man due to the lions over population and being forced to live in close proximity to man.
I believe if the mountain lions causing problems around Boulder, CO were thinned it would help instill the fear of man in the remaining ones. I also believe it’s worth a try because shooting beanbags at lions and/or ignoring the problem like the CO DOW has done is going to get someone killed.
>> ... if the mountain lions causing problems around Boulder, CO were thinned it would help instill the fear of man in the remaining ones.
No, “thinning” would not do it. Here’s what would - preschool. “Mr. Kitty, the lesson for today is STFAFH” (Stay the F**k away from Humans).
1/ Capture Mr. Kitty with muscle immobilizing dart. Do NOT tranquilize.
2/ Traumatize: Yell, beat with boards and tire irons, fire pistols, sear skin with blowtorches, display Sierra Club photos, etc. Broken ribs are an added plus - they are a gift that keeps on giving. (I know.)
3/ Truck Mr. Kitty up into the hills; unceremoniously dump him off. Hope that he doesn’t return.
4/ If he returns, he is shot on sight. The carcass is dragged to an isolated spot. After a quick autopsy, all members present urinate and defecate on the remains and depart. Message to other cats: beware; the two-legged animal is the top predator.
I hear you! Of course it would give the AR activists coronaries. :)

As QB said, The Gift that keeps on giving.
;-)
Humor aside, the sad reality is that a small boy was walking, holding his daddy’s hand when he was ripped out of Dad’s hand by a cougar.
That occurred above Boulder, and there were several adults walking together when it happened.
BAD KITTY!
Enviro whacko types like Abbey who said “It isn’t wilderness if there isn’t something out there that can kill and eat you.” Give or take a few words, and you have all too many of the DOW employees, not to forget nearly all Boulderites.
What IS it in the water that causes city wide attacks of Boulder Dementia Syndrome? ;-(
You’re correct, there’s no humor involved when it comes to an encounter between a cougar and human, especially if it’s a child.
For the people who want to remind everyone that cougar attacks on humans are rare only shows their ignorance because for those humans that have been killed or maimed the attack was not rare, it was a 100% chance of attack.
Fortunately many of the F & G Depts in Western states are aware of it and take lethal action against predators that cause problems. Unfortunately CO is not one of them and CA runs a close second in not dealing with problem animals. I have to believe these Depts are getting more and more employees that are AR activists.
The law in the city of Boulder is that in order to carry a gun from your house to your car it must be in a gun case. On the gun case must be the word “GUN” clearly legible.
Screw Boulder and all the commies that live there. They deserve what they get.
