Hey Freepers on Las Cruces/El Paso area: I'm on PCS orders from CA back to AR and stopping in your area for the night. My honey and I would like some suggestions on some local good eats!
NO CHAIN RESTAURANTS!
We would like either a good steakhouse or the best Mexican food restaurant.

Alamogordo maybe? It’s just the other side of White Sands (my Mom worked at the missile range years ago) and is surrounded on one side by the Organ Mountains (Las Cruces is just on the other side of the mnts) and darnit I forget what the others are called but Cloudcroft is in them.

Yes, the Space Museum is in Alamogordo. We lived there (before the museum was there) back in the late 60s and early 70s. Last time I was there a couple of years ago, a friend and I went and saw an Imax movie at the museum. It was so weird for Alamogordo to have that, as it was just a dustly little armpit place when we lived there (and actually kind of still is). I say that in the most loving manner as it was a GREAT place to be a kid back then! We had horses and rode them around town, it was a blast!

In El Paso, the best Mexican (traditional, not Tex Mex) is Carnitas Querétaro. There are several locations, but the easiest is on I10. Just ask any local where the ‘big pink pig’ is and they’ll send you there.

Kiki’s Mexican Restaurant, close to Bliss, call for their hours first as my troop there didn’t know how late they are open on Sunday !

No, it was don in town, just south of I-10. Sort of downhill from the Hilton.
It was really popular with the locals, and lots of families were bringing in their kids for a school celebration of some sort.
Hubby just reminded me the Mnts on the Cloudcroft side (I think that was East, I think the sun came up from that direction, but honestly I don’t remember!) were the White Mnts.
OK, thanks a lot, now I have a hankerin’ for Mexican food....
MMMM. My husband isn’t amused. I have a craving now for bacon and eggs and trying to get him to take me to IHOP tonight.
Yeah. Originally we were going futher east and coming back to North Texas. For days my mom had talked about burning rubber from cloud croft. Wasn’t going there:’)

Forget Goode co. — they are a new chain.
Stay away from Pappas Bros. bar b que, but steaks are good though.
