I was just playing Animal Crossing: City Folk. It’s as cute as can be. Are you allowed to say “cute” in video game threads?

I don’t have a console system, and my PC is pretty outdated. I still spend a fair amount of time playing Trainz Railroad Simulator 2004 (the latest version of Trainz that will run on my P3).

I hear later versions of Trainz are more realistic, but I’m not sure I want to deal with broken couplers. :)

My daughters absolutely love the DS game “Princess Debut.”
They like the “Naruto” games on the Wii. I enjoy the “Animal Crossing” series.

I play most of my games on the PS3.

I highly recommend PS3:”Fallout3” (very fun and addictive).

PS3: “Silent Hill - Homecoming”(scary as hell... don’t play it late at night in the dark).

PS3: “Star Wars - The Force Unleashed” (The game opening is worth the ‘price of admission’).

PS3: “Call Of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare” (On of the missions you get to control an AC130 Gunship!!!!! Need I say more).

I believe all of the above games are available on other platforms. My experience with them is on the PS3.

Civilization III.

I bought my son Civilization Revolution for the XBox 360, and it’s pretty cool, but Civ 3 may be the best strategy game ever.

We only play the free games for Unix systems (especially 3-D, directly rendered, first-person shooters). ...allows more cash for putting more survival goods in storage. ;-)

I did poorly with my niece and nephew’s Wii bowling game on Christmas day. I’m guessing a few slugs of Irish Mist didn’t help.

Waiting for: The Sims 3

Civilization IV is my current game. I’ve owned all four versions and it is probably the best. I didn’t care for Civ3 much. Duke Nukem is probably my all time favorite. The last version of Castle Wolfenstein was pretty good.

Don’t play a lot of games (though my wife and I have now decided we want a Wii.....loved playing her brother’s the other day).

But, my limited games are PC in nature.

I love Grand Theft Auto, not for the violence, but for the free nature of it. While there are missions, I enjoy the game just for the experience of driving different vehicles all over the map. It is just so freeing and fun.

Much better than a scripted game where you have to follow the levels. I hate those since you are stuck at the level until you can move on, so constricting.

Not with GTA. You go and do as you please if you decide to not go through all their setup stuff.

I haven’t got the new one since I am not sure if my computer will play it, but I loved San Andreas.

Anybody else try GTA 4?

Also, I do enjoy Age of Empires.

How about some old(er) school PC games? Baldur's Gate II and Medieval Total War.

And a real old school PC game: Star Control II, which is open source now, so no purchase necessary ;)

Chrono Trigger DS...re-release of a classic RPG that really does it justice. Retranslated, a few DS only goodies added, but overall it’s just as much of a wonder now as when it was released for the SNES.

The soundtrack is one of the most memorable, the characters are likeable, and this isn’t something you’d need to keep a child from watching over your shoulder.

Final Fantasy 4 DS is also a nice re-release of a classic, if changed a bit more from the original masterpiece.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl, for the Wii. Cartoon type fighting game, no gore, TONS of fun. Classic video game chars going waaaay back duke it out, everyone from Mario and Donkey Kong to Marth and Ike from Fire Emblem, Solid Snake from Metal Gear, and Lucas from Mother 3. The game is a museum to gaming history as well as a solid if unorthodox fighter. There are even nods to Japanese-only games in the soundtrack.

Portal...total mind@#$%. Really makes you think about the puzzles, but more of a game for teens or older.

Now for the bargain bin...where I spent most of my time, the games of yesteryear.

Path of Radiance..Merry Christmas me and one heck of a game, if you like the Fire Emblem series. Like many of the American Fire Emblem fans I got my start playing Marth in SSBM, and later Ike in SSBB. This is the first part of Ike’s story.

Secret of Mana...released a month or two ago on the VC. Another marvelous soundtrack, cooperative gameplay and a good story make this an RPG well worth playing through at least once. Tearjerker ending, too...you don’t see it coming til the last boss fight, even though hints are sprinkled all through the game.

Children of Mana (DS) is another game set in the World of Mana, somewhat similarish play mechanics to SoM so it’s good for a fix anyway...but don’t expect any nods to the original as far as music.

Adventures of Lolo is another puzzle game, originally released for the NES and now avail on the VC. This one’s pretty kid-friendly, other than the difficulty.

Might and Magic: Secrets of the Inner Sanctum...why blow smoke? I emulate. It’s a port of a classic PC RPG, but with greatly improved graphics and a very nice soundtrack for the time. Anyone who likes the really old, hard as heck, very few clues style of RPG, look into this. No handholding, but tons of fun.

But, why try to BS anyone...most of my time is split between World of Warcraft and Shards of Dalaya. Most of what’s left over goes to Brawl.

Best game I've played on Xbox this year = Gears of War 2 Just an unbelievable game visually and production wise. Pure fun to play. When you perform a headshot using the sniper weapon, it sounds like a head of wet cabbage being stomped on. Brilliant.

I'm a big fan of the Prince of Persia series and the latest one was great.

Trailer for the game: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/36270.html

Left 4 Dead. Best damn zombie/survival horror game ever. Even topped “Cold Fear.”
