[history]
Microsoft Corp.'s Zune portable music player is suffering from a glitch that may have frozen thousands of units in the latest setback for the world's biggest software company.
On Wednesday, Zune owners flooded blogs and Internet chat sites to complain that they couldn't listen to music on the 30-gigabyte version of the Zune, an early version of the device, because it wouldn't start up properly.

"We are aware that customers with Zune 30GB devices are experiencing issues with their Zune device," a Microsoft spokesman, in a separate statement, said. "We are actively working now to isolate the issue and develop a plan to address it. We will keep customers informed on next steps via the support page on zune.net."

My IPOD died this morning. It’s a 160 gig classic. Loved the thing. A faithful skiing and kayaking companion. Always in a water proof case.
It’s my third one in 4 years. A 30, an 80, and this 160. They seem to flame out after the warranty runs out.
I’ve got SONY stuff that I bought in the early ‘90’s and they are all running strong.
I’m composing a letter to Apple as I speak!

I had the 30 gig model. Sold it before the warranty run out. Smart move.

You lose all your data, so your hard reset is about the same as Microsoft's.

A hard reset supposedly fixes it.
Reports are that it will die again as soon as you connect it to the computer.
