DES MOINES, Iowa Vicki Myron intended to wait a year or two before getting another cat. Her best-selling book, "Dewey, The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World," was keeping her on the road most of the time and she didn't have time for a pet. An orange and white kitten found on a snow-covered road changed her mind.
"I fell in love instantly," Myron says.
The little tabby was found Dec. 16 by Sue Selzer, who works for the school district in Myron's northwest Iowa hometown of Spencer.
"I was out and about and met a truck that swerved in the road," Selzer says. "I saw something and thought it was some garbage or something but when I got close I saw it was a kitten."

Did she try to locate the cat's true owner? I smell a self-promoting rat here.

oh geez
“Did she try to locate the cat’s true owner? “
If the cat had another owner, they could probably be brought up on animal neglect charges since the kitten was found outside in a snowstorm and had ice chunks and other debris in her coat. A responsible owner wouldn’t allow a kitten to be out in those conditions.
I purchased "Dewey" for my sister for Christmas (of course I had to read it before I wrapped it). I thought it was very well written and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
While the story was about a special cat, it was also a story about the people and economic times of a rural town in Iowa.
I highly recommend it for cat lovers
Looks like a very hapy new year for both!
LOL! I thought the same thing!
I liked him better in ‘Rain Man.’
Whoa! The resemblance is uncanny!
What about a dog? Or a wallet? Just because I don't know who is the true owner does not make me the owner. I normally make a reasonable effort to locate the owner when I find something. Are we all supposed to nod and crow about this wonderful woman on a self promotion tour and not question anything? This story was posted for discussion purposes so I am just asking the obvious question.
ouch. nice teeth
“Spencer is a city in Clay County, Iowa, United States, at the confluence of the Little Sioux and Ocheyedan Rivers. The population was 11,317 at the 2000 census.”
IOW - it’s not a real big city. She brought the cat to the library shortly after she found it. I’m going to assume that it was written up in the local paper. Word gets around. If anyone owned the cat, they could have called her and claimed it by now.
