I wasn't that far off:

Dextromethorphan (DXM or DM) is an antitussive (cough suppressant) drug found in many over-the-counter cold and cough medicines. Dextromethorphan has also found other uses in medicine, ranging from pain relief to psychological and neurophysical applications. Pure dextromethorphan occurs as a powder made up of white crystals, but it is generally administered via syrups, tablets, or lozenges manufactured under several different brand names and generic labels.

When taken at doses higher than medically recommended, dextromethorphan acts as a dissociative hallucinogenic drug. Its mechanism of action is as an NMDA receptor antagonist, producing effects similar to those of ketamine, an anesthetic classified in Schedule III of the United States Controlled Substances Act, and phencyclidine (PCP), a similar, Schedule II drug. [2]

Delsym® is the longest-lasting cough relief sold without a prescription.

It’s a cough medicine doctors and pharmacists have recommended for years. In fact, Delsym® is the only over-the-counter cough liquid that can deliver 12 hours of cough relief in a single dose. That means you and your children can get the rest you need without getting up for more cough medicine.

Plus, as a cough remedy, Delsym® is also a great value. You dose less often—two times daily (every 12 hours) vs. up to six times daily for other cough syrups .

Delsym contains dextromethorphan.

Just was reading through the thread today. Hope you all feel better soon. I’ve used Delsym before—not sure that it lasted the twelve hours—but it helped. Not used vanilla ice cream medicinally before, but will be waiting to hear your results. Going out now to shovel out the mailboxes. We all wait for the grader to come plow our street, then spend hours shoveling out the driveway/mailbox berms. More snow coming.

Best wishes for the New Year 2009 to all you friendly folks here on AMERICA-The Right Way.

Thanks, H.O.B. I really lucked out that I started sniffing at the monitor before I went and bought a new video card, which wouldn't have been the problem and would have proved to be very frustrating.

Just got home and set up my beautiful new 24" Dell monitor. The one that failed was a 22" Viewsonic just a little over a year old. It is probably still on warranty, but I haven't found the receipt yet.

Any strain of sickness that I have, only responds to chocolate. Not picky, just anything chocolate.

Well, it took two bowls, not 2 scoops. I must be sicker than you are.
