Could be like father in law, he just put a band-aid on it.

Yeah, I love it when doctors admit they don’t have any ability to heal anything. :’) “$75 please.” :’D And Daschle wants to *ration* that...

Have you tried Redwood Creek wines yet? I helped them out at a wine tasting earlier this year at our River Fest and they gave me some of the leftover cases. Very good for the price point (similar to Barefoot, as they're the same company) and good selection of varieties. http://www.blazethetrail.com/

Actually, the relationship I have with my doctor is beneficial to my health. I only see him every few years. During the interim, ignorance is bliss.

Is that all there is? Then let’s keep dancing. Let’s break out the booze and have a ball...

...if that’s all there is.

I killed a whole bottle of Malbec last night.

Guess I'm a goner.

Cheers!

Cut out the wine enemas.

A lefty writer, IIRC Hunter Thompson, did that. He also injected booze directly into his stomach.

People who drink wine moderately (optimally 2 glasses / day for men, 1 glass / day for women) have a substantially lower rate of fatality by any cause than do tea-totallers or heavy drinkers.

Haven’t heard of Redwood Creek wines, but I would guess Andrew , the liquor manager at our huge A & P would know them—he occasionally orders stuff for me. This Astica label is really amazing, and they have a red that gets stocked along with the Torrontes, but I can’t remember what it’s called-—maybe Malbec. There are SO many good newish wines from Latin America especially, it’s amazing.
I think the more expensive French wines have all but given up on the American market-—I don’t think they understand the psychology of the American marketplace, and how easily we can turn on our less than enthusiastic “allies”, even though Sarkozy is cut from a somewhat different cloth.
Anyway thanks for the tip. I will look it up.

Well, all this seems to confirm is that there is some kind of balance. Too much, not good. Nothing, you don’t get any benefits. The studies that said red wine is good for you all had a small glass with dinner, not a huge one.

So, you can thank Mr Science for this:

no glass = no benefits
small glass = good
large glass = bad

I drink about a case of Guinness a week and have done so for at least 20 years. Other than an elevated total cholesterol ,which runs in the family in conjunction with a very high HDL (the good cholesterol), I’m in excellent shape.

Last time I was at the doctors office I was told to keep doing whatever I was doing to stay in the shape that I am in. I did tell him about my Guinness consumption after which he replied with a “no comment” and a smile.

As regards the article saying that so many “units” per day were good/bad for you etc, the BMA (Brit version of AMA) admitted a year or so ago that their long touted recommendations were in fact numbers pulled out of a hat and based upon no scientific data whatsoever. They were merely responding to some gov’t request - they want numbers, we’ll give ‘em numbers !!

It's a tough life, I don't think we'll survive it.

And it seems the experts agree.

Or not.

Hmm? I generally drink one large glass per evening of cabernet or chianti. No jokes here. One glass equals roughly half of a bottle. Now I’m wondering if this is such a good thing to do?

Here we go again. Another study that conflicts with a previous study. It should be understood that this is an industry. Academics spend their careers being published. Their studies confirm their bona fides in academia.

I don’t pay them any attention. I figured out a long time ago that I am going to die. So are they. Before they go they can stuff their studies.
