A family spends Christmas Eve in jail.
First broadcast on Monday December 19, 1960 on CBS. "Christmas Story" is the eleventh episode in season one, and the eleventh episode in the complete series. Features Elinor Donahue singing: "Away in a Manger"
And a Hpapy Nwe Yaer to you, too! ;)
(I asked the Moderator to fix it.) Reminds us to always preview!
Ahh...the memories ...when America was America ...Now we have a Kenyan has POTUS ...Cue Twilight Zone theme ...
I remember this episode (well, a re-run of it) — one of the best.
They have ruined their show for me after Opie and Andy endorsed Obama.
I hear you, but I try to put it in the context of the spirit expressed (I hope) in 1960.
Let's face it; as conservatives, we would be miserable if we vetted our entertainment by ideology. Lawrence Welk, Bobby and Cissy and the Osmonds get old after a while. The exception is the overt hate we see from rap, Michael Moore, Barbra Streisand etc...
In any case for some laughs check out my admittedly poor version of "What Ever Happened to Mayberry".
Did it spur of the momment a couple of days ago and it shows...sigh.
Merry Christmas to ALL!

I’m a bit surprised that Andy Griffith would endorse him, but Ron Howard is typical Hollywood. Andy and Opie Taylor were smarter than the actors who played them and would never have voted for an ethically-challenged politician.
Hollyweird was likely just as screwed up then. Shows you not to make heros of men.
The shows back then expressed good moral messages. For that, they can be embraced. But I still will never look at Andy or Opie the same again (or the Fonz for that matter)
I was surprised too. And Henry Winkler too. They may have been typical Hollywood, but never seemed particulalry politically active.
He was always a bit off. I agree with you.
For sure. My guess is that writers, directors and producers ran the show more than actors (directly opposite from today.) Plus, the advertisers back in the day were conservative and not to be trifled with.
Then came the 70's.
I can only hope. Alabama sounds like a fine place to incorporate ;-)
Merry CHristmas!

Merry Christmas!
Thanks for posting.
Merry Christmas!
I remember watching this episode many times back when this show was still broadcast on free rabbit ear TV. I’m one of the die hards that refuses to pay for something that was once mostly free, until cable and satellite slowly steal away all the great shows like above.
I discovered that 32 hours of “Leave it To BEAVER” will air during the Christmas Holiday on one of the DTV sub channels. I’m sure the Cleaver’s were staunch Conservatives in their show. But in real life I’m sure they are as liberal as most other Hollywood Card carrying members.
Merry Christmas to all Freepers out there. Drive safely.......
I don't know for sure, but I believe Hugh Beaumont was quite a stand-up guy. Very religious. He retired and ran a Christmas tree farm before he passed away.
