Bluffton, In - Authorities say a Bluffton man apparently drowned when a skid loader he was operating fell into a manure lagoon in Wells County. An Indiana conservation officer says 23 yr old Nicholas Cruz had been cleaning out a cattle lot at Sunny Park Dairy and dumping manure into the lagoon when he apparently lost control of the skid loader.
I just can't imagine a more horrific demise.
Now that is a BAD way to go. Prayers for the family.
Now, seriously, I mean, seriously, if you went to this guy’s funeral, could you really keep a straight face . . . I mean, I’d be upset that he died, but . . .
And how do you explain his demise if you’re his wife or kids . . . ?
And I’d hope it’d be a closed casket.
Descriptive of the upcoming Obama inauguration.
Paging Mike Rowe
never even heard of a “manure lagoon.”
Thats what they dipped Rambo in in Rambo 2
Interred in turd.
I think something that was written by Dante revealed one level of hell as drowning in that stuff for eternity. Let’s pray that this was this poor man’s purgation and that he is clothed in glory now.
Boy I couldn’t live like that!
Day-um! That almost happened to me when I like 7 years old visiting my Indiana relatives dairy barn!
Years ago, I used to get a magazine from my old fraternity which had news stories about what happened at the different chapters around the country. There was one story about this poor kid who was killed at a party when the cork from the keg someone was pumping shot out and hit him in the head. I always wondered how the family was able to explain what happened to him at the wake.
Farmer next to my aunts house had one of these “lagoons” behind the barn. We never believed the “stay away...danger” warnings, until my cousin fell in.
Good thing it was only a few feet deep, and that there was a pond my cousin could bathe in.
But correct me if I'm wrong....
This happened in the halls of Congress, right?
Take a look at the picture at: http://www.health.state.mn.us/divs/eh/air/feedlots.htm
Manure lagoons are a feature of factory farming, too many animals, too little space, too little concern about the environment. There are neighborhoods around the country that have been negatively impacted by these ‘lagoons.’
I’m no tree-hugger, and I understand that raising animals has its attendant smells (I live in Iowa, where there are more hogs than people), but there are ways to raise ‘em and deal with their waste.
I read about this elsewhere. Apparently when he lost control the skid loader somehow rolled on top of him. His body was found beneath the machine.
I pray that he was knocked out by the accident and he never knew what hit him. Horrible, horrible way to go for anyone, much less someone so young.
How would they know how much to dip out?
