A lot of information today. I found the artile of the supeonas to the Hawaiian banks very interesting. Seems like Japan had designs to has American help fund their war effort.
I was using a movie poster of Pygmalion as the December picture for the year in review post but I’m wondering if I should change that to a picture of the Burma Road.
Funny that the French are caving to pressure from the Japanese. They will make a long series of mistakes in Indo-China between now and the 60s. Unfortunately we will get mixed up in their problem.
Here is some I just noticed. I have read quite a bit lately about Anthony Eden in Gathering Storm, but Churchill left this important bit out:
The London correspondent of the Lokal-Anzeiger writes that "Anthony Eden, darling of America's film world and most kissable idol of American flappers and elderly matrons, has once more become an ascending star on England's political stage."
Who knew there were still flappers in 1938? Maybe it should read "American matrons and elderly flappers." Anyway, I should think with the large staff of researchers Churchill had helping him with his memoirs one of them would have realized the importance of the "most kissable" angle.
