RUBIDOUX, Calif. (KABC) -- A man has been killed by a pair of pit bulls in the Rubidoux area of Riverside County shortly after noon Friday, according to authorities.
The attack took place in the back yard at a home at 5787 Kenwood Place in the community of Rubidoux.
The investigating officers are from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
"At 12:10 this afternoon, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department received a call of a man that had been mauled by two pit bulls," said Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez, Riverside Co. Sheriff's Dept. "Deputies arrived and found the [60-year-old] man still in the back yard of this residence."
...
"The two dogs, one of them being a very large [male] pit bull, and the other one is also a female pit bull, are family pets," said Sgt. Gutierrez. "He was in the back yard smoking a cigarette, and for unknown reason, the two dogs that were known to him, just attacked him."

Get ready for all the Pit Bull lovers “My pit bulls are sooooo sweet.”
No, I don’t read about other aggressive dogs Killing people.
And I am a dog lover.
Well well, how could this happen. The dogs are family pets, after all.
Here’s the deal. If other breeds were prone to just go off unexpectedly, we’d be seeing the stories about it occurring. If german shepherds were doing this and were ‘snapping’ and mauling and killing people, it would be making the news. If rottweilers were, or dobermans, or huskies were, or for that matter, chihuahas, were prone to this behavior and were regularly doing this, we’d be seeing it reported. But we don’t see such stories on any other breed of dog. Regardless of whether they are abused and raised by gang members for fighting or to protect drug dealers, or they are the family pet, these dogs, have something in them that makes them prone to this unpredicatably dangerous behavior. More than any other breed.
The other breeds (dobermans, shepherds, etc) are bred to attack on command, not go crazy all on their own. These things are time bombs with massive jaws.
Damn. A horrible way to die.
There is too many of these and they seem to be getting more frequent... and before people start naming other breeds, pits have a hinged jaw unlike more other breeds which allows them to do much worse damage.... how many people have commented after a death the dog “was so sweet.”
The good news seems to be tghat it was the owner who got killed and not some innocent neighbor...
or the dog always keep to him self still lived with its mother hard working
Are they sure the pit bulls did it? It sounds to me like the work of a couple anti-BIG Tobacco “lawyers.”
I’m a County Deputy and it’s always the same breed of dog I deal with time after time causing injury and death to other animals and people. I trust a Coyote more than a Pit Bull Terrier.
The good news is he doesn't have to worry about lung cancer anymore.
thank you for a n objective opinion. I trust Law enforcement opinion. They see the damage of all breeds on a constant basis.
The dogs of peace strike again. Cue the legions of posters who come and argue that pits are no more dangerous than labs.
Honestly though whats the point? Sure most are nice but if they have a bad day someone can be maimed or killed. If a beagle has a bad day nothing much happens. So why get a potentially dangerous animal when so many other breeds can provide wonderful companionship?
Sometimes I wonder if the MSM doesn't call "pitbull" to any dog who attacks a human? You know, like when a car runs over someone, it always seems to be a SUV. Some names just have a bad rep!
Yeah, but you have to watch those SUVs too, or they’ll attack. I keep mine chained to the garage at night.
looks just like mine advising me of her upcoming scheduled meal. Notice no plate on the table. That sends her into fits or rage.
Well, this explains it:
