I got out late on the way to pick up grandson, figured what the heck I'm gonna try a few shots. 800 mm equiv, hand held. Got this at Mission Nombre Di Dios, St. Augustine. Panasonic FZ30 + Olympus A-200 TC.

I like that reflection Sniper. I guess the gators are sleeping through the winter

Nice photo, wish I had my camera for the ice storm up here but the wife thought she might need it for church.

She didn't.

1 Egret, 1 Ibis, they team up sometimes.

The White Ibis grubs for critters buried in the mud. The Snowy Egret stands by to catch anything that gets away. It seems to work just fine!!

Really?! How come, I wonder? We live on the marsh in NC. We have gators in our gut.

Great pic, as always!

More brackish, this area is almost 100% saltwater.

Gotcha. Though lately, most of the summer in fact, the water has too much salt for hubby to shock. He works for marine fisheries and they do a lot of sampling. They shock to see what comes up. Doesn’t harm the fish. They’re catching drum 3 and 4 miles up the river.

Our gut is labeled, even on all the old maps, as Alligator Gut. They use it as a shortcut across the marsh to a fresh pond. As long as they stay out toward the canal, I’ve got no argument with them. They eat a lot of nutrias. Should they get close to my yard/kids/dogs/gbaby... LOL

The Great Egret is the symbol of the National Audubon Society.

I get along with gators, but still have residual damage from a run in. I got whopped by tail swing, it folded my left foot back almost double. Don’t ever try to stop a tail swing with a foot. LOL. The gator wanted me to land in his mouth, boy did I fool him! The foot will never be the same. North of here, in the Guana area, the water mixes more. Near town there aren’t many freshwater creeks draining into the ICW, just storm runoff.

Yikes! I try to stay far, far away from them. It’s about a mile to Harlowe Creek from our house, and then another mile and a bit to the ICW. I’d much rather see dolphins! LOL

60+ years of messing with the damn things, I’m doing pretty good. When I was a kid we could enter the St. Augustine Gator Farm free if we went in the back gate. When I was about 11 we found a bigun in a ditch, I biked home, grabbed the anchor rope off of Daddy’s skiff, went back, we tied a slip noose in the middle, put 3 or 4 kids on each end, and got the noose on the gator. The damn gator still has that rope. Not long before Daddy died I told him where his rope was, after all those years. He said he sort of figured as much. We intended to just lead the gator in and sell it to the gator farm, Oh, Well!
Kids were better adjusted then!
If you ever go to the St. Aug Gator farm see if you can find someone who remembers the Coachwhip that got loose in the ladies room. Those ladies about wrecked the place!
