LAKE FOREST, Calif. Pastor Rick Warren is set to deliver the invocation for President-elect Barack Obama's inaugural swearing-in ceremony on Jan. 20, Saddleback Church officials confirmed Wednesday.
Kristin Cole, a spokeswoman for Warren, said church officials were waiting on Obama's team to make the announcement.
Just this past August, Obama and John McCain were guests at the two-hour Saddleback Church Civil Forum on Leadership and Compassion where Warren questioned them about issues that ranged from abortion and same-sex marriage to the nature of good and evil.

“Billy Graham counseled Clinton” before or after Monica?
Both
Hmmm the counseling did a lot of good, yes?
Well, I don’t know what the counseling consisted of. Maybe he said “go and sin no more”. Who knows?
At least not in the Oval Office. LOL
The term “Pro choice Christian” is a oxymoron
Rick Warren is a piece of crap!
Oh yes, the shoe’s on the other foot now, and i’ll be verbally kicking that marxist every opportunity i get.
Will Obama swear in on the Bible or on the Quran?......................................
Will Warren read from the Bible or the Quran? is the better question
Oh, that’s just perfect- a match made in Communist heaven. Is the 5th Dimension going to sing about the Dawning of the Age of Aquarius, or maybe they can drag in the twitching corpses of Pete Seeger and Country Joe McDonald, he of the country village of Berkeley, California.
I think the “clergyman with the highest profile” is a rather subjective determination.
Not this one. Rick Warren ain't one of us.
We either have opposition, like Israel, like Italy, like Burma even, or we all pray for the scumbag Indonesian and engage in the old Soviet style Personality Cult.
I guess you are also saying that God may want Caroline Kennedy to be the next Senator from New York?
I guess you are also saying ACORN was also part of God`s plan??
Obama is going to be sworn in as President of the USA because more Americans chose evil over good, Do not blame God.
The Lord was for McCain/Palin, with emphases on Palin.
Yes I am a Christian, and I believe the Word of God to be absolute as well!!!
Obama is a piece of crap! He was put there by the majority of the American people because they chose evil over good.
Yes God could have intervened but he did not.He gave us free will, many Americans spit on God when they voted Obama. The folks that voted Obama may have chose their eternal destination?
TN, I understand your post....and why you would express it just that way...
Chuckles, even though you are Biblically correct in your response to TN, you are missing her point.
There is a fine line from......
.. Yes, God has allowed Obama to win the nomination (as judgment against us,IMO)...
..To..Obama thinks he has a mandate & blessing from God to do whatever he wants, ie...continued & stepped up abortion, acknowledging & rewarding the homosexual community, promoting chaos/evil/uncertainty.
God HATES what Obama espouses....abortion, homosexuality, strife & conflict against Christians, etc.
...but God has allowed him (so far, unless things change) to assume this office.
Our nation has corporately sinned bigtime!...can you imagine the stench in God's nostrils with us, a nation once blessed
We have allowed 50 million innocent unborns to be killed in the womb!
Pampers has a sweet new Christmas commercial out and it's simply beautiful... sweet sleeping babies faces, closeup and adorable
Try to imagine this commercial next time you see it, and multiply it by 50 million!!..
..I was just reading about persecution this AM in Revelation.
Nothing new....we are always to be ready, to be prepared to give testimony to our Lord and Savior no matter what the circumstances.
Speaking for myself, I'm sure finding a motive for repentance.
As for Rick Warren --- I will wait til I hear what he says in his invocation. Courtier or prophet? We shall see.
WAIT!!! I thought he was going to pick a Muslim!!!
Look at any Biblical catastrophe and you will see God's hand at the helm. God knows the beginning from the end and has provided for it.
It seems difficult for people to grasp that we make our choices, but God already knows what they will be. It is true that Americans could delay punishment if we would repent. We haven't so far. We are stiff necked and our vanity has overtaken us. God will chastise that and see what our reaction will be. But you see, He already knows what we will choose. That is how the Bible can be written thousands of years ago and every jot and tittle come true.
The Bible isn't necessarily a minute by minute history of America. It is a guide to how God reacts to our sin. Why would we feel somehow more entitled to God's Mercies than Sodom, or any one of 100 or more cities or countries mentioned in the Bible? We are still delusional enough to believe we are a Christian nation when we can't even pray in public buildings and argue every year about Merry Christmas vs Happy Holiday's. We send our children into training camps to have God cut from their hearts and filled with gobblety gook and are surprised when they take drugs and have sex before marriage or even commit murders.
God's plan is moving forward at break neck speed and we are participating in it 100%. There is NO plan "B". A country is judged in real time by Gods Law. Humans have a chance to repent. A study of Sodom would clear things up quite a bit. Abraham begged God to save the whole city if there were any righteous men left there. After much bargaining, Lot and his family were spared, but Sodom was eventually completely destroyed. Sodom was doomed from the start, but what we find is a few individuals were given a way out. This is the same picture as the Great Flood( and other stories of destruction), in the Bible.
This is why I believe in a pre trib Rapture. The principle God rules by is, reaping and sowing, but also a way out is offered. Jesus is that way out. Repentance is that way out. Faith in a just God is our way out. Does anybody really believe America is somehow exempt from this constant, never changing principle?
America is great because our God is great. Which god do we worship today? How great is that god? How long do we expect God to shine His countenance on this cesspool of unrighteousness? We are in decline and have been since the '60's. We accepted no prayer in school, free love, drugs, Darwinism, abortion, homosexuality, and almost every evil that Sodom could muster, and yet we arrogantly believe we still deserve the tender mercies of God. Sure there are individual dedicated Christians here, but as a nation, we have codified into law a rejection of God.
Now we have Obama. Plenty of people voted against him, but realistically, what difference would it have made if McCain won? Maybe a slower pace to the bitter end, but bitter end it will be. Unless we, as a nation, repent, and turn from our evil ways, and ask God to bless our nation, we will end up in the ash heap of History. Where are the Hittites, the Canaanites, and other named peoples in the Bible? They are just footnotes in the grand scheme of things. The God of the Bible is a jealous God and will not hesitate to chastise any people or nation that He chooses. America is just another piece of real estate on this planet at a certain point in history. We don't deserve any more consideration from God than any other place. Just as God gave other peoples land to the Jews, He owns America and can give it to any people He chooses. If we don't want it anymore, I'm sure He will make sure we lose it.
If you talk to a WWII vet, he most likely will tell you we shouldn;t have won the war. If you talk to a Viet Nam vet, he will most likely tell you we shouldn't have lost that war. What happened from the '40's to the '70's? All the military power in the world will not save a doomed country. Ask a member of the Soviet Empire.
He did
