LAKE FOREST, Calif. Pastor Rick Warren is set to deliver the invocation for President-elect Barack Obama's inaugural swearing-in ceremony on Jan. 20, Saddleback Church officials confirmed Wednesday.
Kristin Cole, a spokeswoman for Warren, said church officials were waiting on Obama's team to make the announcement.
Just this past August, Obama and John McCain were guests at the two-hour Saddleback Church Civil Forum on Leadership and Compassion where Warren questioned them about issues that ranged from abortion and same-sex marriage to the nature of good and evil.

One could take the long term view. If Obama speaks only with clergy who support his positions, how will he ever hear the other side? If Warren and other pro-life clergy refuse to speak to him because of his views, how do they have any hope of persuading him to see the issue from another perspective?
As I recall, it was a minister who regularly picketed at an abortion clinic who befriended and eventually converted Norma McCorvey (the original Roe) to a pro-life position. Had he refused to speak with her because of her historical role, she might still be a lost soul on the issue of life.
It is the mission of the men of God, the men of Christ, to preach to all God’s children, not just those who agree with them.
Speaking WITH is one thing. Giving an invocation where the entire reason you were selected was the “evil” man’s political benefit is another.
Awwww shucks, no Rev. Jeremiah Wright?
I’m actually picturing Cheney having a laugh poking at Biden and watching him steam.
Will Obama swear in on the Bible or on the Quran?
“THE PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE”
You do if you believe the Bible. We get the leaders we deserve from God. The Bible's OT teaches that the Jews got good leaders when they followed God and bad leaders, when they strayed. They even were destroyed and enslaved when it was called for.
Can you really blame God if a nuke hits America with starvation and economic ruin? We've murdered 40,000,000 of his children, recognized sodomy as a legal act, and pretty much outlawed the Living God of the Universe from all American locals and activities.
People seem to believe that if you sin, a lightning bolt comes from heaven to take you out immediately. It is more like a cancer that takes years and even decades to kill you. Make no mistake, God doesn't forget and you will reap what you sow.
If a nuke hits American soil, would we immediately think we have fallen from God's Grace, or think it was just a bad break? We were attacked in NYC and many found meaning in the Word of God,........for a few months. Now,... not so much. Lukewarmers, aren't especially liked by God. We voted,.... we made the choice,.... now comes the reaping of what we have sown. That is the way God works.
PERFECTLY stated.
Those two things aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. I don't care if people do either of those things. What I am focused on is fighting Obama and his policies. Warren is cavorting with an enemy of this country and lending him support. Its disgusting.
If Warren wanted to make a major contribution to God, he would refuse to give the oath, and make it very public as to why. He should say an oath to a liar means nothing. He would stir a minor earthquake and could use the 15 minutes of fame to further the Kingdom.
Making Obama answer for his misguided beliefs would be interesting to watch and a teachable moment for many Americans. Just ignoring it and allowing the patina of God's acceptance of Obama's beliefs is a huge slap at God's Divine Appointment offered to Warren. God may have arranged for Obama to be president, but he also arranged for Warren,( probably the most accepted religious figure in America today now that Graham is so sick), a stage to declare the Word of God. As usual, God needs a prophet and gets a wimp. Prophets were usually stoned to death because they wouldn't water down the Word of God.
Read your Bible. Governments are put in place by God. To think that this is not according to God’s plan is to lack faith. The Devil ultimately serves God, no?
Glad to see this won’t conflict with his appearance at the Muslim Public Affairs Council

A similar statement I’ve seen, is that “I hope to see Obama do well, because I want to see the country do well”. As do I.
That said, the person saying it doesn’t expect much. Neither do I.
Something about praying to be seen by men?
You have taken my comment out of context...

Typically, the clergyman with the highest profile in the country is chosen to give an inaugural invocation. Today that happens to be Rick Warren. It has nothing to do with any ‘political benefit’ to Obama. It has everything to do with asking for God’s blessing on this country as we peacefully transfer power from one Administration to another. That process is much bigger and more important than any one man.
Would you have Warren or anyone else NOT want God’s blessing on the new Administration? I don’t wish Obama success, but I sure do wish God’s blessing on this country that will be in his and his Administration’s hands.
Pharaoh was used by God even though he was a representation of the Devil on Earth. God used evil to do good, as He always does.
If the US is destroyed for their sin, then it will be according to God's Will and for His children's benefit.
I pray every day that the United States be protected from Obama’s evil.... does that count?
