As per the request of many, here's a holiday gathering place for FReeper dog lovers...grab some hot cider, have a seat in front of the fire with your faithful companion curled up at your feet and tell your dog stories here, share your pics, and enjoy!
This is a friendly gathering, and is NOT the place to bash pit bulls, argue about whether dogs were created or evolved, etc. Those that can't keep a muzzle on it will end up in the doghouse.
Although this is primarily for members of the FReeper Doggie Ping List, non-members who happen to stray in will be welcome and are also invited to post pics of your iguanas, ferrets, exotic fish or whatever other furred, feathered or finned companions you'd care to share with us.
As some of you know, I've been working back in the northeast for a few months and found some time in my schedule to make a pilgrammage to New Skete Monastery on Saturday morning. I'll look forward to all the pics and pet stories tomorrow evening when I get back!
Enjoy!!
That is an excellent explanation. If I wanted my guys to stay healthy in that heat, I would probably shave mine.
The trouble with the Belgian Shepherd breed is that they will work until they drop dead from heat. They differ from the more laid back GSDs (generally) in that way.
I have to be careful when playing “ball toss” with mine in the heat of summer, and watch the inside of their ears, and how spoon-shaped their tongues get, and stop the game before they get too overheated.
I wonder how they kept the working Belgians from overdoing it in Iraq heat!
Oh. Try again!
Wally! She is absolutely drop-dead gorgeous!
What I like the most is that she looks like she has a normal topline!... not like those poor GSDs who are walking practically on their hocks, thanks to the stupid breeders going for “show” (I blame the AKC for ruining many of our pure-breds, for breeding to get “typy” looks.
I love dogs!
He he he!

NICE doggies!! The people are ok too.
Although I'm sure any number of etymologists would be willing to blow my theory out of the water, I suspect that the similarities between the words, "God" and "dog" are no accident. You see, the words are mirror reflections of one another, and humanity is the mirror that captures the image of one, and reflects it. God is the perfect master, and he allows us to be masters of dog in order to learn how to be obedient to Him. Just as dogs love us selflessly and unconditionally, God wants us to reflect that love towards Him. Just as we continue to love our dogs when they stray from us or misbehave, God loves us when we do likewise. God provides us with the example of a perfect master, and dogs provide us with an example of perfect loyalty.
The only downside to the whole equation is that dogs earn their place in heaven far more rapidly than humans, and so they don't get to spend quite as many years on earth as we might wish them too.
The homely one with the unkempt appearance ;-)
That’s a nice picture Joe!
Those dogs look happy.
You, OTOH, look like you see a feral cat in the distance.
(OMG, I am SO ducking!)
LOL!
That is so cute! :)
I heard he was the insomniac, dyslexic, agnostic who spent many sleepless nights pondering the existence of dog ;-)
I’m with you! I’m damn near computer illiterate,so no photos. But I have two dogs. Boomer is a 3 plus Chessie [goes about 104], and the biggest backwarmer you’ve ever seen. Dieter [’Dietz’] is a 94 lb, 2 plus Shepherd. He’s the rabbit killer [Booms will chase them, but I don’t think he’s sure why. Dieter knows why]. They make life worthwhile, and fun. And Boomer is giving Scoots [THE Dog!], a Huskie - Shepherd mix, a good run as best dog, EVER!
Merry Christmas from Miss Blue and Abigail!!
You are Santa Claus??
Don't know how to post home photo's. BUT... also have a 183 pound mastif "baby", and a pit bull (gasp) named Sadie. Sadie is the sweetest and prettiest thing on 4 paws. I always steered away from pits until I met Sadie. She is white with beautiful golden brown patches, looks like a little calf. Call her, and she comes running with her little mouth curled up on the left side! What a heart breaker! She looks more like a boxer than a pit, but she is registered pit. She is the real baby (don't tell the mastif) and only girl! The boys are typical big brothers to our Sadie Girl!
LOL...that pic was Christmas 2006...Timber’s last Christmas. We were at PetSmart and there was a line of people with their cats and small dogs, which is what has Ranger (left) distracted. A lady behind the photographer was waving a blinking light to try to get Ranger’s attention, and that’s what I was looking at. Timber is the only one who posed like he was supposed to. Of course he always was the brightest of the three of us, and I considered him our adult supervision.
