WORK TRUCKS, helping the bailout, plus other benefits in homeland security, export markets

TOPICS: Business/Economy; Miscellaneous
KEYWORDS: pontiacaztekofposts; putdownthebong; wtf
WORK TRUCKS: Let's get america working again, on better wheels. Basis: (I am using my experience here, it also crosses other mfr lines) 1973-79 Ford F-250-F-600 class well built, build better? 1) heavier frame, rust protection, heavier lower body components, dedication to 20 year production run. EPA regs exemption (WORK TRUCK CLASS), dual alcohol/gasoline engine, and LPG too. Points: (yeah, obsolete, unless a little nuckie goes off, which fries all electronic systems: homeland security anyone?, at least optional and capable)

Benefits: long term production, export market, stable jobs. If detroit won't do it, maybe Japan, India, China or Brasil will. Again, proven platform, chassis, frame, transmission, axles, ect. It's a start. Combine with best available milage technology, KISS (keep it simple stupid) repair technology/ and a long term committment to quality, and an absolute winner line will result.

When you talk about a dual-fuel vehicle; able to run 100% alcohol or 100% gasoline, or any mixture; or even LPG (which would really be a triple-fuel deal) you are talking about a phenomenally complex fuel system, whether you are talking about a carbuerated or injected engine. You’re talking about a multi-thousand dollar incremental price change.

I think it would be fine to go say a 3-4 year “no changes” theme for most cars and certainly trucks, but much beyond that and we might as well go all the way over to reissuing Trabants and Yugos.

Lefties want us to use oxen. They’ll eat any bio fuel. Safe too!

I think the ideal leftie work truck would be a conventional-looking truck pulling a trailer with three cows munching on organically and hormone-free grass planted on the floor of the trailer. The cows are fitted with methane-collection devices which are hosed forward to fuel the engine. The engine exhaust is ducted under the grass in the trailer to promote grass growth. Behind the trailer would be another trailer with a geodesic dome covered with solar panels, enclosing a bank of batteries upon which a minimal $10,000 disposal deposit would have been paid, and a ducted wind turbine for power generation/recharging. Meanwhile, on the side of the vehicle are two fittings for Bernz-o-matic propane cylinders strictly for use during emergenecy purposes, provided, of course, the proper 30-day waiting period had been observed and $100 application fee paid by the owner/driver before installing them.

If the 1995 Ford F-150 were available at a good price, it would sell well. Ditto the 1985 Ford F-150, for that matter.

When they started installing FM radio in trucks, and other sissifications, they really screwed them up, and put them out of the fair price range of regular guys.

I had a 1979 Ford F250 once.

It was one of the WORST vehicles I have EVER owned. The extended cab rusted away almost completely. It was a wheazing, underpowered (351M V-8) piece of crap and its automatic transmission was balky and difficult.

It had poor ride quality and handled like a TANK as opposed to a truck.

That truck is the vehicle that STILL puts me off of Ford products.

And you want to make it again? have at it, my friend, but COUNT ME OUT!

yeah. the only way to get a non-luxury truck is to get a regular cab, shortbox, v6, 2wd. that’s not a truck, that’s an el camino.
gimme a 4wd, large v8 powerplant, 4wd, quad cab and tow prep with a manual trans. keep the stereo, leather heated seats, heated mirrors, power windows, power locks, power seats, computer displays, auto trans, memory seating, all the plastic body moulding, the 42 cup holders, the street slicks, the 20” rims, the high gears.. heck, i don’t even need carpet.

Carpet holds way too much water when you hose it out for the annual cleaning.
