I have a problem and I can't find any good answers online. I have a nice new LCD TV that I just got for our kitchen. Unfortunately, there is no cable jack in our kitchen and we have been told by our cable company that they can't put one in. I have an appointment with Best Buy's Geek Squad, who told me they can usually get one in even when the cable company can't. But I'm not certain they can do it. In the meantime I have this awesome HDTV but I get terrible reception as I am using old fashioned rabbit ears.
Call an electrician, and MAKE SURE they are good at running nonelectrical wiring. Most of the worst wiring I’ve ever seen has been done by electricians, however they ARE good at getting it in places you wouldn’t imagine a wire being able to go.
Here’s your man.
Las Vegas Dave has the HDTV ping list.
“Are there any products that could plug into a different jack and then transmit wirelessly or something?”
No.
Let us know if we can help you with anything else.
Thanks for the answers. I’m going to check each of these out and see what works best.
You need a splitter, and then just to run a line into your kitchen. Radio Shack has cable splitters.
>>>Call an electrician<<<<<
Thats pure BLASPHEMY!
Find a local electrician. He can drop the cable for you to the place you want it. Get three quotes and go with the cheapest.
As for wireless, you're not going to get as good a quality as cable. And HD signals use far more bandwidth than SD signals. Stick with cable.
This TV must use a cable card if you do not require a set top box.
You could have the cable co. bring you a setup box and install in a location were they can and run DVI or HDMI to the TV (any electrition could do that for you.)
Get a splitter, just make sure that you get one that rates from 5mhz to 25mhz, and run your own cable to the kitchen. That’s what I did.
Correction, 2500mhz
Wiremold. Good stuff, if you can’t get it through a wall, which is almost never. Unless you are in an apartment.
Splitting cable is OK unless you have cable internet. It will probably not be a noticable difference, but the increased resistance will have an effect on your interwebs.
If so, you’ll have to have the cable guy adjust the amplifier in your outside box.
If you want a crappy looking job. You get what you pay for. Also, for a job like that, getting 3 quotes will take more time than the actual job. Get a referral from somebody who knows what they are talking about, and go with it! Geez, it's a $250 job at most, if they are licensed.
Using rabbit ears with an HDTV is like making love while wearing a diving suit. Stop the insanity!
I know.... I was really conflicted while typing it. LOL
When I worked with the phone company, they caused me so much trouble, I nearly cried every time I heard of them working with anything other than a wall outlet. I could just look at nonelectrical wiring and immediately tell that it was done by an electrician. lol
I talking about a man calling another man to come and work on something for him.
NEVER!
What’s wrong with rabbit ears? HDTV signals are just TV signals. Rabbit ears work just fine. So do ancient roof antennas.
If the picture is bad, you aren’t tuned to the digital channels. HDTV will be perfect or non-existent.
Thats pure BLASPHEMY!
Yea, it call a UNION electrician, they do the best work (just like they do for the Detroit automakers.)
