NBCs attempt to revive the variety show genre hit a serious snag last week as Rosie Live drew a small audience on Thanksgiving Eve.
Preliminary Nielsen estimates show that the Rosie ODonnell-hosted spec, featuring celebrity guests, musical acts and comedy skits involving the likes of Alec Baldwin, Harry Connick Jr. and Liza Minnelli, settled for about 5 million viewers. In the 18-49 demo, it matched ABCs Pushing Daisies as the nights lowest-rated program on the major nets (1.2 rating/4 share), coming in below what the struggling Knight Rider has been averaging in recent weeks.
NBC cant be pleased with the performance even on the night before Thanksgiving, when many auds are distracted and viewing levels are lower than usual. The net was going to gauge viewer interest before ordering more segs.
For her part, ODonnell seems resigned to the fact that the experiment ended last week. There will be no more, she wrote on her blog. No ratings. Bad reviews.

She’s no Carol Burnett.
>>Shes no Carol Burnett.
That’s exactly what I thought. Carol Burnett was a very good variety show. There were so many of them in the 60’s and 70’s, but Hollyweird has dried up. Commies, fags and Bush haters are the show du jour.
The networks just jumped the Whale-Shark.

Even women are giving up on that pig. She can’t get fat enough to bring them back.
They are selling off profitable businesses whose returns to capital are much better than NBC.
I believe NBC knew this show was going to bomb. They ran a lot of commercials trying to get people to watch that Miss Piggy.
The one with the most fudge on his face
Look TV is insane. You can’t turn on the tube without seeing an autopsy table, an episode of Charmed (24/7) (hey I know they have tits, but cone-on!) or an NCIS/Law and Order/Missing/or something about some wacko who see dead people. Lots of dead people, lots of autopsies. What a bunch of crap!
I could have told them nobody would want to tune in to see that nasty witch. Maybe I should be a highly paid television executive.
