Glocks don’t fit my hand, and I don’t like their triggers, but would I trust my life to one? Yes.

Taurus... don’t get me started.

Practice counts!
Practicing double action is best so a hammerless makes sense. Each time you pull the trigger should be the same. In addition to reliability, here are some other reasons I prefer a revolver.
You can reload light... make shooting more enjoyable, cheaper, and is easier on the weapon. If you ever need to shoot your carry load under duress, you won’t even notice the extra recoil.
You can’t reload light with an auto. Some autos (Glocks) are very finicky about cast bullets.
You can set up a range in your garage and shoot wax or rubber bullets driven by primers alone. The report will be about like driving a nail, so the neighbors won’t object. In your garage you can not only practice every day for pennies, but you can practice drawing from where you normally carry. At least on my public range you’re not allowed to draw from a holster. You can buy a timing device from Cabellos that rings a bell and starts timing until it hears the report.
Of course you can shoot on your garage range with an auto, but you will have to hand eject and load each round, so you can’t practice double taps.

Buy the Dillon and then we can talk. There’s a lot of little tips for reloading a beginner just doesn’t know.

Then look for an FN High Power.

I love the little trick they did with the hammer. Chamber a round and then push the hammer back up. When you push the safety off, the hammer cocks itself. Pretty neat. No more Condition One.

I am very happy with the S&W Sigma model. .357 SIG caliber. Picked it up for 325.00.
So close to the Glock they were even sued by them.

I’m shying away from the .357 SIG because of the shoulder. I have enough trouble reloading for rifle cartridges to worry about where to set that one.

My impression of the .357 Sig is that it is an auto round that is supposed to duplicate the performance of the proven .357 Mag 125 grain load. I’t certainly not a round for the high volume handloader, and just IMO it’s dang loud.

Corbon’s DPX .38 Super has identical ballistics. Out of my LW Commander I get 10+1 and recoil that, subjectively, feels less sharp than 9mm +P out of a Glock 17.

Nice! My favorite is still my Colt 1911 Gold Cup with Eliason sights and Hogue grip. Too large to carry in the Texas summers, but it is one sweet piece of machinery.

I have a Glock 23. I love it. You want stopping power, with hollow point bullets, you can drop them with one well placed shot between the eyes, out the back of what used to be their head. Really, a great weapon. Had mine for years.

Thanks for the ping Al. I waited for the crowd to chime in before replying.

If you’re looking for cheap, there’s lots of lesser cost alternatives around. I’d go 9mm to reduce costs overall. If you can’t spend the cash or range time to practice, then get a shotgun. Whatever; practice with what you carry.

Looking at a Glock, IMO, the G26 is the best 9mm conceal piece they have, and it holds 11 rounds. Very reliable, very accurate. It’s a Glock. You must know what you’re doing at all times, and I don’t personally recommend it as a starter piece.

I carry a Sig P239. It ‘only’ holds 8 rounds of .40, and is also available in 9mm at 9 rounds. Very reliable, and incredibly accurate. No safety, but double action on the first shot. As safe as carrying a revolver.

These pieces are not cheap, but as the old biker said, “If you got a ten dollar head, buy a ten dollar helmet.”

This if price is a consideration.

Something from the Wilson Combat custom shop if price is a total non-issue.

I too like my 239. I made an error early on and purchased a 357SIG barrel for the 40 S&W version so it gave me two caliber choices. Thought I could use the 40S&W mags for the 357SIG caliber just as I do my Glock 22 and 31’s.......yet found that a staggered column magazine allows such yet the single stack magazines geometry will feed either or but not reliably. Use only 40S&W mags in the 239 with a 357SIG barrel for plinking , not for personal defense. I wound up buying 7 more mags in 357SIG for my 239.

My PDW is the Glock 31 and I really like that. My Guncrafters Glock slide assembly in 50GI arrived late Tuesday and I will go pick it up in the AM. Snagged the slide assembly, 7 spare magazines and 500 rounds of the 325gr HP ammo. I purchased two of their 1911A1’s last year and gave one to my brother for a retirement gift. He carries that every day.

I suggest the glock 23. I have one and have carried it at times and it is comfortable on the skin, clothing and upholstery in home and automobile. And having carried the 40S&W in the form of a Glock 22 as a deputy I can say the caliber is real uncomfortable for bad guys. Was a deputy when a number of shootings were made by other officers in our department and most if not all to the best of my memory were one shot stops using speer lawman ammunition. Sorry I do not remember the specific load or bullet used.

Another feature of the glock is it’s resistance to sweat and other acidic oils that humans ooooooze during daily tasks. Thus unlike a really nice blue or so called stainless finish the glocks tenifer finish is tops for this utility PDW.

Highly recommend the Glock 23. Anything small IMO is subject to mini induced failure for quick double tap or failure drills. I don;t like the mini glocks. Compact 19/23’s are as small as I like for a glock.
