COUPLE TO HOST DOZENS FOR THANKSGIVING AFTER POSTING CRAIGSLIST AD

LITTLETON, Colo. (AP) - This time last year, Monique White was living in a motel and looking for work, wishing for the bustling Thanksgivings of her childhood.

This year, White's holiday wish will be fulfilled -- thanks to an impromptu Craigslist posting.

The 36-year-old posted a two-sentence invite on the Internet classifieds site last week. The receptionist at a dentist's office was feeling a little lonely, her two sons spending the holiday with their dad, so she figured maybe four or five strangers would reply and join her and longtime partner Doug White for Thanksgiving dinner.

Instead, 32 people are headed to their Littleton townhouse. They're busy preparing nine turkeys, four hams, 16 boxes of stuffing and a dozen or so pies.

The Whites say they've been blessed.

They're both working and have bought a home. They say the dinner is their way of giving thanks for their changed lives.

Thought this was an interesting story. Very nice idea, but I hope she/they are cautious. There have been so many stories about predators and weirdos coming from Craig's List. I hope they have a nice Thanksgiving with normal, thankful, decent people.

I’d keep an eye on the silverware just the same.

“I’d keep an eye on the silverware...”

Exactly. I’d have it in a church basement or something, not in my home.
Good luck to them.

People literally have posted “Estate Sale: Everything Goes!” items on Craigslist on other people's homes. Then, when the people aren't there, everybody loots their possessions.

Sounds like a naive person to me.

Craigslist is topshelf...Great site..

You post on that site for just about anything, you'd better expect your phone to ring.

I've bought and sold lots of stuff on their site, with zero problems.

32 strangers coming over? Hire at least 4 security guards. It will be cheaper than replacing everything that comes up “missing” if you don’t hire the security guards (sorry to sound like a cynic, but caution should be in order).

If I were her and wanted to share, I would have donated the money she is spending on this, to a soup kitchen or homeless shelter, not bring all those strangers into my home.

LOL!

“T-day host/hostess beated to death with turkey drumstick and wing. Family’s dog and 2 cats attack murderous turkey, and save 5 children.”

LOL x 2!

She sounds like a sweet woman; I hope this doesn’t turn into an unpleasant event that forever tarnishes all future Thanksgivings for her. I’ve had good luck buying from Craigslist, I don’t think I’d ever use that site for social networking though.

I’m not sure it is wise to be an idealist in this day and age. It might have been a better idea to host this where other dinners like this were taking place. I hope decent people who are just down on their luck and okay people come.

I say God bless this woman. Her example of giving thanks is heart warming. I wish her a safe and happy holidays.

I pray those who will join her will thank their gracious hostess as well.

My son has sold stuff and I’ve hired a workman via Craigslist. Sadly, a few jerks ruin it for everyone, you do have to be careful. I’d probably hold the dinner somewhere else. Call me a Grinch, but it’s hard to watch 30-odd people...

The only time I've used craigslist for something other than buying\selling was to find a Spanish tutor when I was finishing my degree a few years ago. There was an ad from a man who only wanted a nominal fee and claimed he did it purely for the love teaching language. Sounded a little odd, but I called him anyways. He gave a long narrative spiel about the beauty of words and his passion to learn and teach the intricacies of language to others. He turned me down as student though, saying he prefers to tutor young women in their early 20s, and I was too old and too male. He came off as a creep, and I hope any girls responding to his ad picked up on that and stayed away.

After that, I decided it would probably be better to stick with the University language lad.

LOL! Well, I guess some like girls, some like boys... I assume you meant the language lab.

Doh! One has to be extra careful in proof reading their posts on FR, where, unlike most sites, we don’t have an edit feature. All mistakes are forever set in stone here.
