TAMPA, FL -- A malnourished pitbull, rescued after being thrown from a vehicle, is now on her way to recovery thanks to the kindness of others.
Rescuers with Pit Positive, an animal rescue group, have taken in the dog who they named Angel because of her amazing recovery.
The dog managed to crawl to a nearby house and appeared to be waiting for help. Arthur Fyvolent, with Pit Positive has been taking care of her since she was found last week.
"We often feel like garbage men sometimes people treat these dogs so badly," said Fyvolent.
Angel (Slideshow) has come along way. When she was found, she weighed only 18 pounds, half the size of a healthy pitbull, needed surgery including a blood transfusion. One of Fyvolent's other dogs donated the blood.
"All it takes is a little bit of food a little bit of care it is amazing with their will to live they will come back."
But, Fyvolent says, she needs more surgery, and that will cost money. So volunteers are pitching in and holding a fundraiser called Angel's Paw wash.
It will be held Sunday November 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m The event will be at the Village Grooming at 14442 North Dale Mabry.
Angel's abuser has not been caught. Animal cruelty is a third degree felony.

More evidence of the nature of many pit bull owners. Must have decided the dog wasn’t violent enough to keep.
Our daughter has a pit bull whom we really like, most days more than we like our daughter. She brought him and her other dog which is an American fox hound to our farm for fireworks and he was quite calm whereas the other dog tried to catch the bottle rockets. I still think it was a very poor choice for a pet however.
That poor baby! May she find a loving forever home
More evidence of the kind and generous nature of many pit bull owners.
What kind of sick twisted stretch did your mind have to contort itself to come up with that comment after seeing those pics on top?
You are either a clown or fiend.
You mean the pictures of the starved abused pit bull abandoned by its owner? That's a tough one...
It’ll really doesn’t have to be and either/or choice.
We caught a Chihuahua mix that we suspect was thrown out on our very busy street in Houston a week ago. He is about 1 1/2 years old and well fed but would have been dead in minutes if we had not caught him. We already have 4 dogs and can't keep him so if anyone in the Houston area would like a sweet little 14 pound neutered male, please let me know. I'll post pictures if anyone is interested.
Oh my G*D! Words just fail
So you’re both... well, just a long as we know not to take you seriously.
That’s the worst case of abuse I have ever seen.
I don’t quite know what to say.
Best...Graphic...EVER.
Can I be on your ping list?
Mojave’s my little buddy. ;-)
We’ll bring him(her?) around eventually...
Oh, the poor thing!
No! I wouldn’t do that to you! ;~D
But I will put you on the less flashy Responsible Dog Ownership(RDO) Ping List if you’d like.
You would have the distinction of being the 50th member.
