Both my daughters are looking for jobs. One of them is a recent college graduate with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration and Communications and the my older daughter (turned 30 today) graduated from Nursing School in June with an AAS in Nursing. I try all those job sites. It is so frustrating because most of the listings are “agencies”. If you find a “private employer” they want 5-7 years experience plus a Bachelor’s Degree for a job as a receptionist that pays $25K per year. That’s not much if you live in NYC like we do. The nursing jobs are even more difficult to come by. You need to speak Spanish, Mandarin or Russian.
Sometimes it is time to leave where you are and find jobs elsewhere. and agency jobs can lead to work
I’ve found that you can weed out allot of the agencies by just googling the phone number in the ad.
There are thousands of nursing jobs available in the US.
Leave NYC if necessary.
why not try for the NYPD? yes, i’m serious. they cancelled the january class but will be taking a class in july of ‘09. great salary, benefits, job security. and as far as i’m concerned, it’s the best job in the world.
Nursing jobs have been a hot item on the west Coast....
Your daughter who is a nurse. They are like gold in so many places. Has she considered moving? In Santa Barbara, there are so many “traveling nurses”. The rents are pricey, but may be worth considering.

My GF is a nurse, works four ten hour shifts a week. More of a technical position. But she's been in since her college days so she's paid her dues. No more bed pans for her.
AAS in Nursing? It means nothing. Does she have her RN license and if she does, I cannot understand WHY she has yet to secure a nursing job. I am a medical professional and I know the demand for nurses.
In regards to one of your daughters—are you saying a trained nurse can’t find a job? That is practically unheard of!
Get her to go throug the RN program. Better chances, better pay. I’m not sure what the AAS qualifies her for, maybe only LNA.
For good RN jobs, go to rural areas. There are three nurses in my family. There is never a lack of hours for them. Night shifts pay premiums. Don’t overlook psych wards and old folks homes.
My mother also worked in a 6 month geographically rotating program whereby she was stationed in Gallup NM, Key West FL, and Houston. For a younger person, I think this woul dbe an attraction. She received stipends for housing.
Long term, I think she’ll do well in nursing, just ensure she gets to the RN level.
Long term, get her out of NYC. What you’re seeing is not typical.
That is difficult to understand about nursing, I thought there was severe shortage of nurses
I thought there was a nurse shortage.
