Related Topics: San Diego
SNIPPET: “A bright spot for the local economy: San Diego plans on putting 3,000 people to work starting this summer, according to a published report.
The county is expected to get $7 million in federal funding as part of the nationwide $787 billion stimulus package passed earlier this year. The money will be spent locally hiring young people for summer jobs, reported the San Diego Business Journal. It is the first time in 10 years that federal money will be spent on summer jobs, according to the paper.
The temporary positions will, for the most part, pay $8.25 an hour — the minimum wage. A dozen nonprofit organizations will do the hiring. Young people from families with low incomes will be shown preference in the hiring process, according to San Diego Workforce partnership president Mark Cafferty.”
