Thanksgiving is just around the corner so I thought it would be fun for people to share their favorite recipes.

Take one and/or leave one. ;o)

I like these threads-usually find some good stuff. Thanks to all and happy Thanksgiving to all at FR.

I’m a decent cook, but this year is a tough one. Obumble coming in, my investments and 401k around 40% of what they were last year, I’m in the process of losing 120 pounds-(getting divorced from my wife-which is going to be final on Valentine’s Day of 2009-God’s little joke on me)

In light of all this, my recipe, while a treasured one, and one I plan to make this Thanksgiving, is a simple one:

In a large glass, place 3-4 ice cubes.
Open a bottle of Wild Turkey 101 proof bourbon.
Pour a generous slug of bourbon over ice.
Sit down and drink.
repeat as necessary.

Hubby's Favorite

Sour Cream Apple Pie

¾ c Sugar
2 T Flour
¼ t Cinnamon
¼ t Salt
1 Egg beaten
1 C Sour Cream
4 C Tart Apples

Mix sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt. Mix egg and sour cream, and add to sugar mixture. Add slided apples and toss until apples are coated. Pour into unbaked pie shell. Top with crumb mixture. Bake in preheated over at 400 for 35 – 40 minutes.

Crumb Mixture

1/3 C Flour
1/3 C Sugar
1 t Cinnamon
¼ C Shortning

Sift flour, sugar and cinnamon together. Cut in shortening with a fork until mixture is a fine crumb. Sprinkle over pie.

Quick, Easy & Delicious Peanut Butter Fudge
It melts in your mouth!

1/2 cup Butter
2 cups Brown Sugar
1/2 cup of Milk
1 cup Peanut Butter - any kind
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
3 cups Confectioner's Sugar

Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar and milk. Bring to full boil and boil 2 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat. Stir in peanut butter and vanilla. Pour over confectioner's sugar in a large bowl. Beat until smooth. Pour into 8x8 dish and chill. Cut into squares when firm.

NOTE: The MAIN TRICK is not to boil too long. Soft ball stage (drop a little in a glass of cold water & a soft ball will form) will give a lovely creamy consistency.

No one has a good recipe for sprouts?

I do now! THANKS!. We love brussells sprouts, but I never knew how to make them fresh. I just bought Green Giant.

I told Quix your reply, and he suggests:

Put two cups of boiled brussels sprouts in blender. Add 1/2 c. fish oil and 2 c. warm water. Add one can of lima beans and one can of hominy, no need to drain cans.

Blend on high for two minutes or till smooth in appearance.

Spread under the rose bushes.

Thanks for the ping. I am adding my cranberry "cosmo" slush to this thread.

CRANBERRY COSMO SLUSH

7 cups water
2 cups sugar
Boil together to dissolve sugar. Let cool

2 cups water
4 Green tea bags
Boil together. Let cool

12 oz Frozen Cranberry Juice
12 oz Frozen LimeAid
2 cups Vodka
1/2 cup Triple Sec liquor

Mix all together (sugar water, tea, juices, vodka) and freeze over night.

Put a few scoops in glass and mix with Squirt soda, and enjoy!

“If cooking a whole turkey....start it upside down...then turn a bit less than halfway through. This allows the juices to permeate the white meat meat and retains moisture throughout.”

Plus, if you lower the turkey into the hot oil head first it sends a message to the other turkeys.

Another use for cranberries. A fast, easy recipe a busy person can crank out in volume for holiday tables.....and for giftng to neighbors and friends instead of cookie trays. A Rachel Ray recipe. Five-Minute White Chocolate Fudge Christmas Wreath w/ Cranberries and Pistachios

FIRST Grease a round layer cake pan. Center in pan, empty condensed milk can wrapped w/ saran.

Melt on low heat 12 oz package white/chocolate/chips, cup white/chocolate/chips, 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk, tea vanilla.

When melted, add 1-1 1/2 c unsalted pistachios, 1/2 c dried sweetened cranberries, stir well (will stick and burn if not stirred constantly).

Pour into greased pan around can. Top will be bumpy.

Decorate in Christmas holly shapes w/ candied red/green cherries halves. Or use candies like red and green MnM's. Cool/set in refridge.

TO GIVE AS GIFT Liftout of pan. Place in cellophane bag and tie with bow.

VARIATIONS Can also use semi-sweet, milk chocolate, peanut butter, or butterscotch chips.

Excellent. Thanks so much. Here’s a recipe that’s been floating around Virginia for a while (I heard about it from my mother — she used to work with Quita, the lady who submitted it).

Roxie’s Sweet Potato Something

For casserole:

3 cups mashed sweet potatoes (or 2 large cans of yams, mashed)

3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1/2 cup milk
1 stick melted butter
2 tsp. vanilla

For topping:

1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup melted butter
1/2 cup flour
1 cup chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Combine all casserole ingredients and spread into a greased casserole dish. Combine topping ingredients and spread over top of the potatoes. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until top is browned.

This dish can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated for 2 to 3 days.

Cousin Sara’s Tortilla Roll-Ups

2 (8oz.) pkg. cream cheese
1 (7oz.) can green chilies, drained
1 sm. can chopped black olives
2 (2.5oz.) pkg. corned beef or pastrami, shredded
1 c. shredded cheddar cheese

Mix all ingredients together with mixer. Use 8 to 10 tortillas (10” size) and spread mix on them, roll up, wrap each in foil, and refrigerate. Cut into one inch slices, serve with salsa.

Oh my goodness! I think we have the same in-laws! rofl!

Mine scheduled a cookout to celebrate the birth of a SIL’s new baby. We were to eat at noon. It’s a two-hour drive for us but we managed to arrive at 11:00 to help with preparation. The guest(ess) of honor lives 20 minutes away and didn’t arrive until 3:30. And she had all the meat for the cookout!

Dang! When my family says we’re eating at noon, you’d better be there because at 12:01 you’ll be eating leftovers. :O
