He is the last of his kind, and despite a sudden interest in the opposite sex at the grand old age of 90, it seems Lonesome George may stay that way.
After stunning conservationists by mating for the first time in decades, the giant tortoise from the Galapagos islands still may not become a father.
George, a conservation marvel and one of the world's rarest creatures, mated this year with two females, but 80 percent of the eggs they laid appear infertile.

Reptile ping.
The longevity of tortoises and turtles always astonishes me.
That leaves 20% fertile...
There’s hope for you yet, George.

If he continues mating from time to time over several years, the 1-in-5 odds make a hatchling fairly likely.

Morning, Tax-Chick!
Thought this might make you chuckle:
Four tortoises were playing in the backyard when they decided they needed hibiscus flower snacks. They pooled their money and sent the smallest tortoise out to fetch the snacks. Two days passed and there was no sign of the tortoise.
“You know, Shelly is getting really slow”, said one of the tortoises.
A little voice from just out side the fence said, “If you are going to talk about me I won’t go.”
LOL! That reminds me of the “Frog and Toad” story in which Frog writes a letter to Toad and gives it to a snail to deliver!
Lonesome George?
“I walk 47 miles of barb-wire
“Wear a cobra snake for a necktie
“Got a brand new house on the roadside
“And it’s made outta rattlesnake hide
“Got a brand new chimney with a roof on top
“That’s made outta human skulls
“Now come on, take a lil’ walk with me, honey
“And tell me, who do ya love...?”
George Thoroughgood, right? I know my daughter has that on a CD.
