In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
pantheon \PAN-thee-ahn\ noun
1. a temple dedicated to all the gods; also the gods of a people
2. a group of illustrious persons *
* Indicates the sense illustrated in the example sentence.
Example sentence:
With his induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame, the former player joined a pantheon of legends from the sport.
Did you know?
Some of the earliest uses of this word in the English language refer to that most famous Pantheon, the circular domed temple built in Rome more than 19 centuries ago (and still standing). We can easily identify the origins of the temple's name, which the Romans borrowed from the Greek word for a temple honoring all their gods. That Greek word, pantheion, combines pan- ("all") and theos ("god"). Later on, in English, "all the gods" was used to mean just that -- a pantheon could be a collective of gods (as "the Egyptian pantheon"). We stop short of worshiping outstanding men and women as actual gods, of course, but nevertheless, in the 19th century we also began using pantheon as a word for any eminent company of the highly venerated.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Following the recent election, the Democrat pantheon now includes the Unholy Trinity of the Lord Obama, San-Fran Nan and Dingy Harry Reid...
blind wearing glasses i am. eye drops use i must, the use of glasses essential is, as proscribed is contacts wearing.
Harry Reid isn’t really a “spirit” though, is he? More of a pungent oleaginous mist.
you sure do...
So, will this democrat president keep his pantstheon while traveling around with the White House staff?
While reviewing Michelle’s demeanor and tact and looks, we have too choices:
(1) He would be scared shirtless to try anything.
(2) He would. Absolutely and as soon as possible he would try anything.
Are you getting ready for refractive surgery, or just irritated? I have not regretted the surgery I had for one second.
That is one FUBAR Pantheon.
no surgery on MY eyeballs, thanks. just irritated. hope to have the new glasses before our trip to it-ly. you are a brave man to let them operate on your eyeballs, i do not have the stomach for it. i wouldn’t do it except as a last resort to save my sight.
Camile does a better job defending Sarah Palin.
“Liberal Democrats are going to wake up from their sadomasochistic, anti-Palin orgy with a very big hangover. The evil genie released during this sorry episode will not so easily go back into its bottle. A shocking level of irrational emotionalism and at times infantile rage was exposed at the heart of current Democratic ideology — contradicting Democratic core principles of compassion, tolerance and independent thought. One would have to look back to the Eisenhower 1950s for parallels to this grotesque lock-step parade of bourgeois provincialism, shallow groupthink and blind prejudice.”

quite right. the attacks from the supposed right are more troubling.
Homework time: Brooks, Parker, and Noonan are a triumvirate of quislings in the pantheon of perfidity.
Sorry y'all, but I absolutely must do it...ROLLLLLL TIDE!!
See my tagline, mommy.
Good mornin’, how are you?
over bend!
not afraid to show my ignorance. i know this is a football slogan, but what significance does it have? what is it supposed to mean other than GO TEAM? or is that it? i am ignorant in the ways of football in the south, as whyisa can attest!!
I was somewhat surprised to see that Joe Biden would rather be Obamas number one peon than continue his sterling record of plagiarism and failure in the Senate. Michelle Obama appears to be the real power behind the throne; will she hit the beauty salon and get herself a henna top to go with that hideous red dress of hers?
As for Barackhe learned from President Bush that there is a white phone in the Oval Office which is used to call staff members, and a red phone to call Putin or Ahmadinejad. Obama has asked for a tan phone with which to call his homeys from da hood, the color being reflective of his mixed-race pigmentation. Unlike Bill Clinton, Barry will not have time for a ten-ho nap in the afternoons. He will be too busy tearing down two centuries of capitalism and democracy.
The Crimson Tide is the Univ of Alabama football team.
Bear Bryant was the most famous coach and one of the most respected college coaches of all time.
Nick Saban is the current coach. At this time, we are currently ranked #1. WooHoo
Roll Tide is the Big Cheer for the team. The elephant is the animal mascot...very appropriate for a conservative Bama Babe such as I.
I could go on forever. Do you need more info?
