Rep. Rahm Emanuel of Illinois, President-Elect Barack Obama's choice for chief of staff in his incoming administration, is co-author of a book, The Plan: Big Ideas for America, that calls for, among other things, compulsory service for all Americans ages 18 to 25
Emanuel and co-author Bruce Reed insist "this is not a draft," but go on to write of young men and women, "the nation will enlist them for three months of civilian service." They also warn, "[s]ome Republicans will squeal about individual freedom," ruling out any likelihood that they would let people opt out of universal citizen service.
Damn right!
Like Rush was saying yesterday, all you states that voted for Obama I hope you get what you voted for.
I can't wait to see the expressions on some of these punks faces when they're picked up by a bus from the central committee and hauled off for their 4 years of 'service'.

Completely aside from that, by what Right do you claim authority over other peoples living arrangements? Will you suggest that those living in polygamous non-coercive adult relationships should be arrested and possibly killed by government agents at your behest?

We already PAY TAXES for many things we disagree with. This fmaily has been LEGAL U.S. citizens for atleast three generations. To LIVE HERE is NOT ABOUT TAXES.

You miss the point.
Volutneer work and community service should NEVER be COERCED as YOU are suggesting. COERSION defeats the purpose of “feeling good” and makes it more like a punishment. It must come from the heart or it mocks the proper motivation for it.
Some of us have a full plate and don’t feel the need to answer to people who want to coerce community service etc.. We’re too busy trying to survive.
Didn’t know that, actually. Good book, though (Starship Troopers).
13th Amendment
Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime where of the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
Section 2. Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
I have another take on Obamalamadingdong's 'compulsory service' scheme. It could be a slick way to redistribute the wealth. I would suggest that this 'compulsory service' will be populated mostly with inner city youth who will receive monthly paychecks from da gubmint via Joe Taxpayer.
