A long time ago, when I was in my first year of college, I went to try to get a medicaid health insurance policy. Keep in mind that I had just completed a stint in the Army and we had just completed Desert Storm. All I was looking for was a catastrophic insurance policy and I just didn’t have enough cash to purchase one.
Now, back to the story....I was clearly in the minority in that office and was a bit ashamed to even be standing there with my hand out. But, I was thinking that it was just a temporary gap stop and so I would shame myself for a little bit of time. When I finally got called and I explained what I was looking for, I was told “you’re a white male, go out and get a job to pay for it.”
That was the nail in the coffin for any sympathy I might have ever had for those on the government dole. I never did get any medical coverage......
